i just wanted to share some of the astro boy art i've done since re-discovering the franchise :]

firstly, i got ahead of myself and drew this little guy before studying his design, so i got a few things wrong. i still think he's cute, though!

next, i wanted to try giving him some new clothes, because i loved all the little outfits he wore in the 2003 series. i found one on pinterest and gave it a try.

this is also when i started drawing atom with freckles. not canon, i know, but its become a part of how i draw him and tobio, and my headcanons. i like to think atom's freckles are "perfect", just sprinkled over his cheeks and the bridge of his nose, while tobio's were more wild and natural, and showed up in "unflattering" places. i think tenma would have subconsciously "fixed" things he thought weren't quite good enough about his son. its partly his high standards for tobio, and partly seeing him through rose-colored glasses now that he's gone.

now, these little doodles were from a community magma board in the astro boy discord server im in. the canvas was so small ToT so the resolution is bad.

the story behind this first one stems from my firm belief that 03 tamao becomes an emo/alt kid in middle school. i thought it'd be fun if he dragged his friends into his emo phase via osmosis.

i imagine like, a band tamao likes is in town and they're all gonna go, and they decide to dress the part for fun. kenichi does atom's makeup and tamao does his. someone gets fake piercings. reno and shibugaki just wear black band t shirts, but they're all having fun.

i wanted to draw emo atom because the idea of this little kid with the sweetest smile and a personality like sunshine just beaming in his little emo getup was too perfect.

and the last thing for now, this poor lad that i drew with my mouse on a discord whiteboard, dragged around the screen, and saw fall apart because his vector lines got messed up. im sorry baby

new atom art! this time he is a horse! lol

i've always loved my little pony, so here's my take on an mlp atom. still a robot, still a sweet boy. he's got fuzzy soft flocking as "fur", it's very nice to touch.



i also made an alicorn version for fun :P in the 03 series tenma is always calling atom a "king among robots" and telling him to rule the world, so i thought he'd probably make the kid an alicorn. do you think that amounts to blasphemy in the mlp universe? he's basically artificially elevating his dead kid to godhood.



this whole au would probably take place in an odd fusion of astro boy's sci-fi future setting and g4 mlp's fantasy setting. i think it would be visually and technologically similar to astro boy, but with the added existence of g4 mlp's established magic system and some cultural ideas such as alicorns as divinely ordained rulers or holidays like hearth's warming.

i'm kind of invested? maybe i should make pony designs for other characters :p
