I dunno if I'm a fan girl, yes I am a girl. Then I guess so. But a lot of people see fan girls as these annoying people who have high pitch voices. LOL

Tezuka apparently intended the original Astro for boys.

Then fangirls appeared.

I have a suspicion that Kathy (Astro '80 episode 3 Japanese, aka Episode 2 English) was created to reflect the fangirls. At least, the fangirls remind me of her a lot! And no offence intended because Kathy is a cool and smart person - and, by the standard of Tezuka women, also very independent!

it's because once Astro left to become a super hero she was no longer needed, she has done her part for Astro. .
