Father of A Brother
Good News!
Inside there was a table with glass straight though the middle, separating the front from the back. On either side was a red phone, and behind the glass sat the tall, skinny man. He had over grown black hair and silver eyes. I was almost scared to go in. There was only one seat and I let Astro take it, and then Astro pulled out the phone and held it to his ear.
Zinc, turn up you hearing level. Astro said so I opened up my chest and turned a little nob just enough so I could hear Tenma breathing.
Hello Astro, who is you friend.
This is Zinc, my new sister. Astro said and he seemed proud.
Oh yes your new sister that we were talking about last time. Nice to meet you Zinc, Im Dr. Tenma.
Nice to meet you. I said.
Well, Astro how has your day been? Tenma asked.
As usual Alajo still will not listen to me. Astro said with sadness.
Im sorry Astro Well Zinc how about you?
Umm. A lot of the kids in my class and even the teacher dont like robots and I got picked on a lot. Astro became even sadder. But I did find her I opened up my stomach plate and Astros and Tenmas eyes almost popped out of their heads. Then I pulled out the little Soul. She was abandoned and now Im her mama.
Tenma looked as if he had just over come a heart attack God, Zinc, I thought you where gonna pull out your food bag! Why do you have a kitten!? Tenma said.
I have more manors then that doctor. I put her in there so she would be safe. I said as I set her down on the table so she could stretch out.
Zinc, you have to put her back before anyone else sees cause we could get in some major trouble! Astro said in a whisper.
Alright, alright. I said and I placed her back inside and shut my stomach plate.
Just then the time buzzer went off. We said our goodbyes to Tenma then I fallowed Astro back into the hallway. This time though instead of hiding behind Astro, I over came my fear, because the way it figured was all humans had hearts and the ability to use them. I went up to one of the cells.
Hello I said and Astro pulled me back so quickly that I felt Soul loose her breath Hey!
Zinc, these are bad people. Astro said.
Well they all have hearts!
Ugh, well we dont have time for you to go around and greet ever prisoner. I still have homework to do. Astro said.
He pulled me out of the building and we had to wait a while before the guards came to take off the thingies that kept our weapons from working. Once they had finished we took to the skys and by this time the sun was already setting over the horizon. Its orange and purple light rippled over what looked like a giant blue blanket.
Astro, what is that?
What? Do you mean the ocean.
Yes the ocean.
I watched the mystical water of the ocean until we landed in front of our house. I was shoved inside by Nora.
Its your bedtime, young missy. Now go get in bed you can recharge in the morning. Nora said nagging.
I went into my room and opened my stomach plate. Soul was sleeping inside so I pulled a out drawer and placed a blanket in it. Then I took out the sleeping blue eyed baby and put her inside. I turned off the lights and clawed in my bed. It wasnt long before I felt little paws up my chest and then the soft little kitten curling up on my pillow. She purred Mama, mama, mama until she fell asleep. Then, I dozed off too.

Taking on a Legacy
I woke up the next morning and my white baby was still sleeping right next to my head. I picked her up and wobbled out of the room and down the stairs and I need to grip to the railing to stay up. Nora was making breakfast for Dr. OShay in the kitchen and it smell like eggs, bacon, and toast. I could hear Dr. OShay and Astro chatting in OShays room, but I went to Nora.
Hello, deary. Did you sleep well? Nora asked with her back turned.
Yes. Uh what time is it? I asked and my words seemed to be just barely rolling off my tongue.
Ten oclock . Are you feeling okay? Nora said.
Ignoring her question I said Oh no! Im late for school! I rushed to grab my backpack and I seemed to slam into everything on the way.
No, Zinc, it is Saturday. You dont have school. Nora said worried. Did you recharge this morning like I told you to?
Um no. I said, ashamed that I had forgotten.
Well thats why youre acting so strange. Now go upstairs and recharge. Nora ordered and I started towards the stairs. Wait, Zinc, leave Soul so I can feed her.
I placed Soul down by the Nora, but every time I tried to leave she would follow me saying Mama, Mama! As if she thought I was abandoning her. Then Nora handed me Souls food bowl that was now filled with tuna and milk.
Take her upstairs with you if she is going to be so persistent. Nora said.
With that I picked up Soul and the food and went upstairs into my room. Zoran was still sleeping in her pink bed and I didnt want to wake her, so I quietly set down Soul by her food on top of the dresser. Then I plugged myself into the recharging station. I started to feel better in an instant. A few minutes into charging I heard Zoran moving around as she woke up.
Hello sleepy head. You took forever to wake up. I said as I unplugged and shut the station.
You went to bed three whole hours before me you cant expect me to wake up at the same time. Zoran stated as she sat up.
Soul had finished her food and so picked her up and cradled her in my arms. Then I went and sat on the soft pink bed by Zoran She wont let me leave her because she is afraid I wont come back.
Poor thing. She must have been so hurt when her cat mama left her. Zoran said while petting Soul on the head.
Just then, Astro walked into our room Hey, Zinc, I was wondering if you wanted me to take you on a tour of the city?
Yeah! Zoran are you coming? I said with excitement.
No Im having a sleep over with my friend soon, but you two have fun. Zoran said.
I was somewhat disappointed as I went to follow Astro out the door, but was stopped when Soul tried to follow me.
No Soul you have to stay here.I told her then I looked towards Zoran. Zoran, would you mind watching her until I leave? I said
Sure. Zoran said and she picked up the little white kitten.
With that Astro and I ran down the stairs and out of the house. Once outside, I grabbed onto him and we took of flying.
The first place we are going is the old Theatre. It is closed down, but it is pretty historical. Astro yelled though the wind.
We landed in front of a big red brick building that had a sign saying theatre hanging on it. The building its self looked about ready to fall down. The red brick seemed to stand out from the tons of other concrete buildings surrounding it. I walked around the historic building and looked at all of the beautiful flowers that had grown from its soils. Suddenly, I heard a load of disturbing commotion.
Its coming from the preschool! Astro yelled and we both started running south towards the school.
When we got there, there was a bunch of people crowded around and a great feeling of fear and worry surrounded the group. Suddenly, a police man with a big nose and mustache walked straight up to us.
What is the problem, Detective Tawashi? Astro asked the police man.
There are four preschoolers trapped deep within the old abandoned pipe line that used to bring water to the theatre. It has been covered in concrete and asphalt from recent construction and if we try to drill into it there is risk of it collapsing on the children. The tunnel is too small of a hole for any of my men to fit into including the robot squad Tawashi said as he motioned towards the pipes opening.
Detective let me try. Astro said.
No Astro your new body is too big. Tawashi said.
Ill go! I said.
Astro started with Wha , but before he could get anything else in I was on my hands and knees crawling through the tunnel small and cramped brick tunnel. I began by following the little moans I heard from the children since it was pitch dark in there. It almost reminded me of when I was not yet alive, but even the tunnel had more aliveness then that. Before I knew it my high beams kicked into gear and thats when I suddenly noticed that it smelled like extremely toxic mold. Which only meant I needed to get to the children faster, so I crawled with all the speed I could throughout the long and winding brick tunnel. It wasnt long before I began to feel the skin of my knees tear off. The shape of the tunnel made it easy for a human to get lost. I crawled for about one fourth of a mile, by that time metal was all that was left on my palms and knees. Then I finally saw the four children and I could sense their terror. They had tears streaming down their faces, but they looked in my better condition than me.
Dont worry children, I am here. I called I will lead you out.
They crawled towards me and we started heading out. Then, I heard a screech and looked back to see that one of their feet had gotten wedged in between a crack were the tunnel had been pulled apart. I tugged at her foot, but she started to scream in pain so I stopped.
Dont worry. I need to go on with the others, but I will be back with help. I said and patted her on the head then continued crawling. She then grabbed onto one of the other children.
Dont leave me alone! She cried as she squeezed the child Please dont leave me alone!
But there is nothing I can
PLEASE! She screamed.
I then realized that I couldnt leave her because when I come back she might have already died of the mold. I crawled up next to her and scanned the area her foot was caught in. If I was able to pull the brick out that was over her foot I could free her I thought, so I jammed my fingers under the brick. I began to pull up, but it was too hard and I slipped. I cant give up now. Not when were so close I thought. Then with a giant heave I pulled up on the brick and I felt it loosen. At the same time though my right arm tore out of my shoulder and was just hanging on by the skin and wires. I could hardly feel anything over the pain now, but the pain gave me strength. I ripped the brick from the socket. The break surprised me and I fell back scrapping my head and my elbows against the hard brick. I flipped over and soon regained my position of leading them. The long crawl back seemed to be taking twice as long since I couldnt feel my arm and all of my joints were now exposed, I continued on though. Eventually we saw the light coming from the end of the tunnel. I was so relieved when my knees hit the soft grass of the preschool playground and to see the bright, radiant sun again. I stood up I nearly toppled over from being leaned over for so long. Astro ran up to me when he saw the condition I was in, but before he could get to me the parents of the children and the children had me in a giant group hung. When it finally decimated Astro was waiting there for me and he hugged me too.
Oh Zinc youre a hero. Astro said We need to get you home so Dr. OShay can fix you up.
But I just wanna continue the tour. I whined.
But Zinc you look awful and it must hurt like hell.
Astro, please. I begged.
Okay what about this, home is just over there. How about we walk home and call it good. Astro compromised.
Fine. I said and I tried to cross my arms, but my skin just ended up tearing more.
We started to walk home along the dull sidewalk and even though home was just a little away there where tons of tall buildings blocking our way and making the walk longer. Then I heard my name on one of the many big news screens. Zinc is a true heroine. Today she saved four preschoolers from a dangerous pipe line and in doing so tore her own body to shreds. Astros new little sister seems to be taking on his legacy. The news lady said. Even with all the pain that still made me smile.
Within walking a few blocks the pain became excruciating and I collapsed into a flower bed and looked up at the big blue sky. Astro didnt hesitate to pick me up and started flying home. I closed my eyes and fell into a deep and much needed sleep.
Hello, deary. Did you sleep well? Nora asked with her back turned.
