It's really not too far of a stretch. They're both futuristic and include space shops and the like. I agree with diehard- go for it!

It's already been done . . . check out fanfiction.net / anime / astro boy

And yes, it works really well! Go for it - everyone has their own ideas and settings.

Confidence, my boy!
If you know people who wouldn't want to read it, then just don't show them. One of my friends writes fan fiction for a show I loathe so she just doesn't show me sinse she knows I wouldn't like it anyway. There are (obviously) people who think you should just go for it. It's really up to you whether you want to try it or not.

That's just my opinion.

The challenge is, I want this to work where I can make it into several "episodes" that I can run with or with out astroboy at any given time
