OMG!! This is GREAT!
I was away from the computer pretty much all weekend, so I'm catching this Monday morning at work - Penguin you continue to amaze and delight!
This borrows from the idea of that 2003 ep where Atom has amnesia and lands where Boon is living . . . but what a cool twist!
You know there is a real whole other universe of Atom stories that could be written, beyond his "official" adventures . . . this one-shot is actually kind of nested within a larger tale.
Reading through this I remembered staying with friends many times up near Eldred, NY (in the area you describe) - it's beautiful, peaceful and the sky is, indeed, dramatic as you describe. I remember cross country skiing across their lake one starry winter night - every now and then a shooting star. No Astro, though!
I'll leave a review on FF later!

But in Taiwan it's TESTS TESTS TESTS every day until you're dead!
And everything's soooooooooooo hard
Which is why I don't have time to put my doujinshis online
Today I got 36 points out of 100 in a chemistry test today and that's considered acceptable because most of the kids in my class got 0 although they studied all night without sleeping.
Come to think of it, I don't sleep much either. Ugh, I HATE the education in Taiwan! There are loads of nice thing about Taiwan, but the education sucks.
Oh well, at least when I'm reading at night I've got my handmade Atomu and Kiki paper dolls at my desk to keep me company
(Kiki as in Kiki's Delivery Service, an animation by Hayao Miyazaki. It's pretty good.)
