I've had it a while, but it's from the Tezuka page about the 1980 cartoon.

Obviously, both Astro's and Uran's postures were taken from the ep 'Robio & Robiette. They're appearing in the scene where both of them are watching Robio doing the test run, shortly before the ep's title signet shows up.
Apparently, the pic Fauna posted has been alternated using a different background; as well the character's gestures had been shifted in time for creating the 'remarkable' picture language.

Not only Melmo: there's Choppy (or Tink) as well!!! OMG, you just made nostalgic: Sapphire, Silverland, Rock, Nylon, Duralmin... Ahhhhh...

This was the Spaniard opening for Princess Knight: Dance the 80s!

http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=CMYnPRuitSc

Trans. narration:

"A long, long time, ago, there was a country called Silverland. There, a girl, daughter of the king and the queen, was born.

An ancient law forbade women to rule the kingdom, so the king and the queen of Silverland decided to keep it as a secret.

And raised their dear daugter as a male. The evil Duke Nylon (or Linoleum) suspects the truth, but he can't prove it.

The Princess Knight, a happy, healthy gal, dressed as a boy, will be known as the Prince Knight (how original the translators were)!

Her best friend is Choppy, an angel sent from heaven to look after her.

The Prince Knight, riding on her white horse gallops the whole reign always keen to be the defender of peace, justice and freedom"

Trans. Lyrics (I'm not inventing anything! They actually say this!)

"Choppy and the princess/
are good pals/
Choppy defends her/
from her enemies/
you're the princess/
this is your castle/
little Choppy/
is always with you

The dueke doesn't want her/
he's her enemy/
because he suspects/
she's not a boy

It's an angel/
Choppy's your devoted friend/
his powers against evil/

It's an angel/
who came from heaven/
Choppy will protect you

It's an angel/
You're his princess/
his powers against evil

It's an angel/
Choppy's your devoted friend/
he'll never give you up

[And from here to the and the same lyrics, changing the order again and again. Morover, in the ending of the Catalan version, a little screen with some kids dancing to the song (jokingly called "The Choppettes" by some fans) would move across the screen in various directions. Ahhhh, the eighties...]

"Choppy?' Does 'chop' have the same meaning in Spanish as it does in English?

Well, in fact "chop" or "choppy" has no meaning in Spanish because it simply doesn't exist. However, when I see this word, I always start singing "...Chop the tree, skip the rope, look at meeeeeeee... All together now!" Well, Tink is quite a choppy guy, always changing his moods: from sucker to serious hero in two pages and then back to sucker.

Well, according to my fellow countryman journalist and manga specialist (and one of the greatest Tezuka experts in Western world) Alfons Moliné, Tink got his name changed to Choppy by the distributor of the series in the U.S.A. (the very famous animation production and distribution company Rankin-Bass/Videocraft International: http://www.retrojunk.com/details_commercial/1946/) in order to avoid legal problems with Disney, as the name of Tink came from Peter Pan's Tinkerbell: I guess Disney had the exclusive rights from the original play's copyright owners to use the names of its carachters.
Because almost all western channels bought the American version of the series, they mantained the peculiar name of Choppy. However, in the Spanish edition of the manga they changed the angel's name back to Tink.
