Okay -- I haven't read/seen the Melanin Tribe, so that is NEXT on my Astro Boy "must-do" list! I remember the 60's episode with Dr. Elefun let's him experience fear (and he's not found of it). I thought the "bad attitude Astro" was "Astro II" so I'm going to chat that too!

I agree with F-Man that Atom's becoming selfish & discriminatory toward humans then slowly seeing the error of his ways & returning to his original attitudes is important, as it shows us the answer to What if Atom were evil?. If it had not occurred in Atom reborn Tezuka may have covered it in the CHRONICLES (TALES).
So, who wants a STAR OF AFRICA thread? I may decide to use my current images, though I had been capturing new & more frames.

Out of honesty I find it extremely difficult to picture a character like Astro Boy being evil. I haven't read all the manga so I can't say.
But I agree, Atom seeing the errors in his ways shows what would happen if he became bad. I'd have to read that manga some time soon. It would be interesting to see him act like that, but like I said I find it hard to imagine.

OOPS, I already made a thread:
185 The Star of Africa
Note that there are 5 other eps between BK #2 & this one. Note that ATOM REBORN is not among them.
I have no idea why; & I believe that Atom had his normal attitudes in the animated version of STAR.

here's a fan fiction I wrote from the Angel of Vietnam. Tell me what you think?

In fact, Astro is so good at heart that I wanted to make an adult fanfic-parody based on The Terminator where Astro, provinent from the future, used his cute looks prevent Daisy Silver, future savior of the world and son of Saphhire Silver, a well... A woman of the streets. Rock Holmes, an Irish soldier, would try to defeat the monster and save Saphhire. Lots of action, comedy, gore, a very eighties look and ********* ***.
But I abandoned the idea.
I can't express how I felt when reading the Angel of Vietnam, as it would hurt many sensibilities.

I actually read that fanfic before I found this forum - I didn't realize it was Dannavy's work, and I also didn't realize it was a retelling of the actual manga. I had read on some other site about how some people feel Tezuka/Astro Boy were anti-American because of this story.
Actually I think every American should read it. Tezuka was brave to express himself through Astro. War brings many horrors to people on all sides, and here we get a glimpse of what an obviously loving man felt inside, as a native of a country America once called "the enemy."
