I just examined a sample of MACFARLAND's contract, & now I need a lawyer! All the permissions for use of images, etc, are the author's responsibility. How do I get these?

I guess I need a new thread, or revive an old one.

Okay! It seems to me you have one of many recourses to take re: publication of your book.
1.) Submit it without images. Many of the books published by McFarland are scholarly works like your own and have no illustrations in them. For ex. I have a book published by McFaland about the Flash Gordon serials of the 1930s and 1940s and it has no illustrations and is still an interesting read due to the amount of information provided.
2.) McFarland is just one publisher. Do not limit yourself to one publisher.
3.) Do research. The internet provides many websites to help unpublished authors get their works published.
4.) Email Tezuka Prod. Their website tezukaosamu.net should provide information on how to contact them and may help in getting permission to use their copyrighted images. Or request information from Dark Horse Pub.
5.) Check out info re: the fair use doctrine.
6.) Do not let any roadblocks keep you from making your dreams come true.
Remember asking for help is not a sign of weakness. Lack of effort is. So do the research, ask for help even from already published authors, such as F. Schodt, but DO NOT GIVE UP JUST BECAUSE IT IS NOT AS EASY AS YOU THOUGHT. NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE. SO "CATCH THE FUTURE!"

I had given thought to seeking Schodt's help, but feared that he already had something under development, & would be a competitor. I still have a long way to go before I have all my stuff in 1 file with an index, etc.

I know about fair use, & with the amount of images I currently use, it would help, but I feared it would not likely be sufficient. Thanks for the suggestions, ASTROBUDDY.
