Well, you can always use your imagination for that specific part. After all, it is an RPG, and Astro Boy itself has lots of history so just go with what you feeel works best.

Perhaps he could have his own shop on the side as you suggested yourself, but then of course he would not have the means to support his incredible abilities.I think I had wondered if he had been in jail or if he was in a mental hospital. If it's the latter, after a long therapy, perhaps he could be deemed cured, and allowed to work to the ministry again.
Well, maybe instead of just having a small shop on the side, Tenma is still going to therapy, and has been doing well. Ultimately, my guess is that he would feel slightly unfulfilled in his current state, bt he'd still find pass times in his daily life to keep him happy.
Actually, I wonder if maybe one of those past times would be playing the piano. Given the 03 series, I almost wonder if the piano/organ is something that merely calms him, or rather keeps him sane.
As far as a prequel goes, the major I want answered is just how much time passes between Tenma's disapperance, and Astro's awakening. I would assume a year, but O'Shay/Ochanimizu becomes head of the Ministry maybe two or three months after he disappears, and he discovers Astro not too long after that.
I would like to see Tenma's mind evolve in that time frame.
I know that what goes on from Astro's birth and Tenma giving up has been covered in other series or in the manga, but I would still like to see it from the 2003 series perspective. It wouldn't have to be a repetition anyway.
Ooh, that would be interesting. Tenma's so sympathetic and interesting in the 03 series that it would be kind of hard to pass up on showing his evolution from slightly insane, to mad scientist.
Also, there's a few other things I've come up with to flesh out the story...

I think I'd personally like to see Tenma work more closely with Astro than with O'Shay however, it would move me a lot more. That scene at the end of the 2003 gets me every time 
and I would long to see more interaction in between them in the event of a sequel.I

Thanks; I'm sure I'd be able to find more for them to do together as I develop more ideas for this, though I think it's important that Tenma have a good relationship with O'Shay/Ochanimizu as with Astro. After all, I do feel that Astro would consider them both his father figures in different forms of the word.
But thanks, I do think that Pavlos showing his face again would be perfect. He's so cocky and full of himself that it wouldn't surprise if he still wanted "revenge" on two of the Ministry's most prized scientists. Plus, it'd just be awesome to see Tenma verbally pwn him again.
