Astro's Destiny?

Postby Lalapalooza » 13 years ago

Does anybody know what Tezuka had originally planed to be Astro's over all destiny to be? I trully believe there was more to Tezuka's character rather then just being th good hero guy with a dark and sad past. I just can't figure it out.

The superhero mantra wasn't Tezuka's desire, which Fred Schodt explains in his book. Atom was one of the first post-war concepts in civil rights in which Tezuka explored the elements of racism, bigotry, civil law and human behavior and how all this gel'd about in a society. He also wanted to show a more peaceful purpose to the fledgling atomic age beyond Hiroshima and Nagasaki, saying that the Atom wasn't the all consuming agent of death and destruction and we didn't have to go kicking and screaming down that dark road.

But it didn't go the way Tezuka wished, eventually through the first NHK/NBC run and later Atom ended up being another rockem sockem superhero and I think Tezuka grew a little upset.

It's my opinion, as those go, that fan fiction writers should honor Tezuka by giving more stories to Astro's every day blase existance with a little rockem sockem action.

I noticed in the manga that Astro's stories weren't the usual super hero type stories. Maybe another reason why he doesn't sell as well in America as we think he should but it's one of the reasons I like him

he is definatley not a normal hero, he a a lot more "real" then other heros, I wonder if that might have been his Destiny, to turn conventional ideas of heroes on there heads.

I think Diehard is onto something. I believe Tezuka wanted Atom to be accessible and "ordinary" enough that he inspires each of us to try a be more like him whenever we can.

Astro: I....thought about it...just that they can't make clothing that won't burn or shred when you're having it out with a 500 ton run-a-way robot. A costume? When I see Batman and Robin I kinda cringe in terror.

That is so cool that you guys think that way seeing as I was the one having a hard time. Do you think I could read that book too Dannavy 85? It might help me in my research. Also do you think you can clarify what you mean with the rock-'em sock-'em bit. Respectfuly writers should put that in?
I think Tezuka would cry with joy at what you guys are saying. Keep up the love!

I have yet another question. Did anyone else watch the 2003 episodes?
If you did, what values do you think he learned in it?
