Pluto manga

Has anyone read the whole thing. I only realized why it wasn't making sense due to the fact you're supposed to read RIGHT to LEFT. So it makes more sense now. So has anyone read it? I think the robots were wayyyyyytt too human-like. But who cares. Did Pluto really want epsilon to destroy him? Because it seemed like he couldve if he wanted to

I read the whole thing, and was going to re-read it this summer - have put this off until I have my eye surgery next month (cataracts)

I noticed how realistically human the robots were, too, but I took this to be Urasawa's idea of how Tezuka might have updated the appearance of the characters. If robots and humans interact almost seemlessly it would make sense that we might physically blend in together.

What was most "surprising" to me was the way Pluto took over the "off hours body" of the construction robot (who was the "Pluto" that Uran befriended).

Epsilon just made me want to hug him - he seemed to want to fight Pluto off, but not attack and destroy him. The way his hand saved Wasilly just broke my heart and made me cry!

What I loved so much about this adaptation is that Urasawa gave us a chance to care about the OTHER great robots of the world - not just Astro. The whole story, really, is about the incredible power of love and peace . . . and the tragedy of what happens when hatred runs rampant.

It was pretty wierd reading "backwards" but I did get used to it! I really can't wait for the movie, and I hope Urasawa creates another arch from Astro Boy. I'd love to have him retell the origin story.

Anyway, I just started reading that recently after putting off for awhile. It's defenitely getting very interesting as of late. Though I have to say, I think this is one of those manga that's works better in an actual manga format, than in a monthly serial magazine. I only say that because it takes its time to ease you into the bigger plot going on, and that can be very hard sometimes for readers to adjust to if not much is going on.

Case in point, I read teh first four chapters individually, but kept putting it off after that. Then I managed to find a copy of volume one at a local comic book store, and reading the entire book straight through, I was intrigued to continue. And most likely will do so in the future.

I read the whole thing online last year, but a few days ago decided I wanted to buy up physical copies. From what I remember, it was a little slow starting off, and I missed a few of the references since I was new to the fandom at the time, but it was great.
