A new series in every 20 years?

To think that they wouldn't (or couldn't) replace the voice actors is simply quite silly. As it happens, I thought that the original (Japanese) voice actress for Atom was long since deceased...

Anyways, it was other people who pointed out the "Twenty Year Pattern"; we just believed them (and it certainly isn't like they weren't in the ballpark ).

I, personally, would just be thrilled beyond words to have a decent English release of the 2003 series (which, as I've previously stated, is nearly a decade old). Just subtitles would be nice- in fact, I would prefer it. I've become fond of the way Japanese sounds. (And Atom's voice in Japanese is always cute~ :3 )

Actually, I'd love to see Funimation tackle a dubbed version of the 03 series. But considering their licensing history, and the fact that Sony still holds the rights to it, that most likely will never happen. But hey, a girl can dream, can't she?

I'd peronally like to see them do another Astro Boy series, but what I'd really like is a sequel film or OVA series set a year after the 2003 series, focusing on the Astro/Tenma/Ochanomizu dynamic.

I'm not saying I wouldn't like to see a new series- believe me when I say that I would be thrilled (and maybe they could pair with Funimation from the start! as far as I can tell, their dubs seem pretty faithful). But I just think it's unfair that the 40th Anniversery series (to the original 1960s series) came overseas in such a bastardized state (the American version even got cropped- from widescreen to standard size. you can tell; it's simply awful).

I agree, I'd like a new Astro Boy series or film, but I also wouldn't mind seeing someone invest money in redubbing the 03 series, just to fix up certain things. Or at the very least, make a subbed release, because they'd actually make money off of that.

I prefer subs to dubs. Everyone sounds so cute! ^w^ Or awesome, in some cases. (Tenma's voice is SUPER DEEP, though- deeper than his English counterpart, even! hmy: )

Actually, I think Tenma's english voice sounds a lot deeper than his Japanese voice does to be honest. Still though, they're both good interpretations of the character. One is more psychotic and overly confident, and one is more evil and sinister sounding. Either way, they're both fun to listen to.

As far as language goes, I like both dubs and subs. As both are capable of being either good or bad. In fact, I like dubs so much, that there are plenty of anime I'll only watch in english; like Fullmetal Alchemist, or Princess Tutu. So admittedly, I'd like to see a shot at a new dub for the 03 series. But since that won't be happening anytime soon, I'll stick with the dub we have now, since I don't outright hate it like a lot of people do. It's not the best dub ever made (obviously), but I still think it has its merits.

And besides, I've seen plenty of more worse dubs (cough 4kids One Piece cough), as well as heard worse dubs from mroe professional dubbing companies (cough Mai Hime cough).

Actually, I used to like it okay, when I was a kid. But I liked Pokémon when I was young, too (as well as that Megaman cartoon from a few years back). My point is, to a younger audience, it has the capability of being tolerable, at best. But now it just annoys me.

Now that I think on it, trying to watch either series of FMA in the original Japanese dub seems kinda weird... ^-^; That is an exemplary English dub. That is how it should be done (even if it's annoying that no one pays any attention to the Japanese honorifics/terms/suffixes/what have you- though, considering that it's not set in Japan, in this case, it's forgivable).

I know what you mean, I just don't personally hate it due to the fact that despite many of the edits (some of which I hate) that the story and the emotion still shine through. Heck, while I prefer the Japanese version of the last episode, I will admit that the english version did in fact touch me very profoundly.

Yeah, I agree. That's actually one of the reasons I like the dub for FMA; it's very natural sounding, from the voices, to the way the dialogue is spoken. That's also why I'm not crazy about the dub for Brotherhood. It's not a bad dub, it's Funimation after all, so the acting is spot on. But the script sounds more translated than natural. I'm assuming it's because the scripts for Brotherhood were not as loose in their translations as the first series was.

The problem is that ever 20 years is quite long...
And we can't live that long, silly is thinking that we can always wait for a new version to come in every 20 years hoping that we can still see it.

I remember that 10 years ago, I and my cousin never got along together.
Few years later, I was still avoiding being too close with him and he passed away in a car crash before the mother's day. So, it was too late to made up with him.
20 years are pretty much that I'm even feel bad for those who hoped a new remake, but died in a way or another before a new show was made.
I am not being paranoid saying we would die anytime, but when we are just too old, then we'll don't see a new series or even able to watch them fully.

A mixture of new and old school asthetics is what attracted me to both the 80s and '03 anime adaptions, as well as the wonderful manga.

To me, in all anime and manga there is a lack of recognition for the manga. That is the yardstick by which a good anime should be measured, by it's manga version. Changes for good reasons can be alright, but to change things fundamentally ruins it. It happened with Mahou Sensei Negima and Negima neo. I don't want it to happen (unless it already has) to Astro Boy. I am going to catch up and buy the box sets and manga that exists now, just so I can have some basis for judging the new series.
