Yeah, Atom knew from pretty early on that he was a robot, even with Tenma. That's why he got so upset at the robot disposal plant, when Tenma spoke so lightly of replacing robots that were no longer cared for.

That is one of my strongest points, SuwaHana; even if he did know he was a robot, he did not know how that affected him. He failed to realize that humans regarded robots the same way they thought about toasters. They break, just toss them in the incinerator & buy new ones. I hate to bring up FG, but it is appropriate to this discussion. One day Brian learns that humans & dogs are valued differently. Stewie, likewise learned how the dominant species regards all others. Human bites a dog, no problem if humans are dominant, but if dogs are, the human experiences euthanasia first hand.

In episode #49 of the 2003 series, Atom is repaired by Dr. Tenma after the battle involving the Blue Knight. Tenma wipes Atom's memory, and he believes he is Tenma's son Tobio. He thinks he IS Tobio the human child, not a robot.

Uran and Atom's friends try to get him to remember, but it isn't until Lamp attacks Tenma's house with a huge robot like tank that Atom does remember he is a robot and he blast's off into the sky to fight the robot tank. This was my head canon idea for a few of my fan fiction stories, that he might not know what he was capable of doing until he had the need.

BTW the scene of Tenma playing the organ just before unleashing his robot dogs into battle reminds me of either the Phantom of the opera, or 20,000 leagues under the sea.
