I didn't know pre-registering was an option when I went, so I had to watch people skip ahead of the line for what seemed like forever. If I ever go to a con again I'm pre-registering. Skipping ahead of line is definitely worth the extra cost!

I'm not sure what the rules and regulations were for your particular con, as all cons are different, but at least with Sakura and Emerald City by pre-registering it costs LESS than purchasing your ticket the day of the con.

Right now I think Sakura tickets are for sale for only $32 when on the first day of con it's like $60 or something. It's just something to look into and see if it's an option, though not all cons offer discounts for pre-registering and some do (as you mentioned) offer people the option to skip to the front of lines for a fee or a "VIP pass" or something similar. The way I see it, if you're going to a super popular con with a lot of people VIP passes that allow you to skip ahead or enter early are 100% worth it even if it's a little extra.

Most cons do have a pre-registering system and I would certainly recommend it. You still gotta wait in a line but it's usually not as long and you're at least guaranteed a badge. No worries about them running out before you get there.
