Why not? I myself watch very few TV shows, but the Simpsons is one of those that I do watch. They do not need to tell you when you are supposed to laugh as they do with nearly all other sitcoms, because it actually is funny.

Ach! The very thing that makes it funny is what you dislike. It was the Simpsons itself that stated something like:

"Its funny because it's happening to somebody else" (season 6, disc 1)

On that same disc, the commentators covered the subject quite thoroughly, they stated that the cartoony violence was so far removed from actual violence that it should be obvoius that it was not something you should try at home.

Looking at the pic above I'm wondering whether South Park's Matt Stone/Trey Parker ever have featured any cameo appearance of Astro in their series. Can you imagine Eric Cartman rushing through the skies like that?
