Hey Cyber333; Welcome to the Astroboy discussion boards!

You have Japanese sub files?
All I can find are Korean ones transcribed by someone called jigmunt. Sadly, machine translation of Korean leaves alot to be desired. Japanese machine translation is usually somewhat intelligible at least...
Could you check your .smi files in notepad and see if they really are Japanese - 10th line down- Lang:

If they are, I think I can set up a windows macro script to automatically machine convert and translate the SMI files into something somewhat useable...
I can already do it with the Korean ones (I've tried doing it manually, and making an automatic batch script should be pretty easy) but the translations I was getting weren't good enough.

Since we're on the subject, if someone wanted to try editing a machine translated Korean subtitle file into good english, we might be able to get something going here...

hey Anapan! thanks for the quick and welcoming reply... and did i mention helpfull!

unfortunatly the SMI's are Korean  I recieved them all (episodes 1-40) in a zip file titles "Astro 2003 Subs (asian).zip" i just assumed they'd be JAP subs, thanks for the head up! is there a chance you could email me your converted smi for the first episode? i just wouldn't mind checking it out.

And for thoses who are curious the animation for the show is A+++ damn perfect! I'm in love with the new show even tho I cant understand it!

On a side note, have there been any DVD's released of the original series.. anywhere? with subtitles?

Thanks Again
BRAD

lol, you're very welcome;

I've got 1-38 and 43, I'd like to get ahold of those last 2 you have.
I actually haven't converted a whole file yet, only enough to realize that the translation was very wrong from both the Korean web translators I found. I'm just waiting for either a windows macro program, or a new translation program to finish downloading right now, at which point I'll use one of them to translate episode 1 and see what gets spit out (probably tomorrow as it's 2:20 AM here and I'm kinda tired).

AFAIK, the only good English subtitled episodes avalable are from a fansub group called TV-Nihon. They finished up to episode 6 before they cancelled the subbing. I think I remeber Jeffbert mentioning a pirated DVD with some badly translated subtitles a while back tho. A forum search should turn that thread up.

BTW, there seems to be at least 3 Spanish subbing groups working on the new series now. At the very least, their work could be easily translated into english to make more subtitled episodes.

What email address did you want me to send those SMI's to?

When i mentioned DVD's i meant DVD's of the 80's series of astro boy, any word on them?

Thanks
BRAD

Oh yeah, didn't read the post carefully. Someone here posted pictures of some scenes that panned vertically, and they were very good quality. I think those were from a DVD.

Well I don't speak much Japanese (did iContinuers for HSC and now a little rusty) but between my boyfriend and I we COULD subtitle (with help of dictionary ^^ ;) episodes. However you'd have to appreciate that it would be a slow process as we both have Uni and club duties.

It would also help if i had scripts but not necessary. I do however need all the episodes and downloading 40 takes awhile ^^; i have 1-6 subbed and 7-9 raw.
Kimi no kokoro de, catch the future!

WOW! that'd be awesome! for the moment i'm only in need of the first episode, as thats all i bothered to download for now. and seeing that your copy is already subbed... LOL *WINK* WINK* all you'd need to do is type out line for line whats said, then myself or Anapan could create working ENGLISH subfiles for everyone to enjoy! I'd even put up a webpage to host them :o

It'd be no rush to get them done quickly, it'd just be cool to have them at all!

Thanks
BRAD

Uh, isn't the first episode already sufficiently subtitled in English for everyone to enjoy? Also, not to put a damper on things, but subbing usually requires *at least* one person fluent in Japanese or the process takes much too long to make it worthwhile - alot of the things said prolly wouldn't be in most dictionaries...
