Tachakoma
I just finished Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex volume 4. The Tachakomas' AI is apparently causing some unexpected behavior. This relates to the conflict in the 2003 Astroboy series in that humans fear robots that are too human-like. In Astroboy 2003 Humans decide that AI robots can be as unpredictable as humans themselves. They might be able to choose evil (toward humans) over good. Thus, the call to scrap all AI robots. The kokoro (heart) is apparently dependant on the AI; hence, to get rid of the kokoro, the AI must also go.
In GITS Stand Alone Complex the humans begin to sense unpredictaed behavior in the Tachakomas. The Tachakomas themselves begin to sense the humans' perceptions, & talk amongst themselves about their predicament. They anticapte their own destruction and begin to plan how to avoid it. Although they do not understand the concept of death, they do nevertheless equate it with their own decomposition. However, it should be noted that they supposidly have no ghosts, as humans do, but I anticipate this will soon become irrelevant.
The humans immediately cease using them, and return them to the factory. It should be interesting to see how this works out. <_<
