Since I've just watched that part in order to take screenshots... From Into Thin Air, when Astro starts school (I'm translating, don't know exactly how it was really in English):

And where the 80's series presented Alvin's change of attitude in a tragic way, the 2003's went with humor... Later:

Is it this Midori? I hadn't heard of her.

There is also this Midori, who was the first female figure skater to land a triple axel. She was a world champion and Olympic silver medalist.

Interestingly, one site says "Born in Osaka, Japan in 1971, she was named Midori, a word meaning 'precious jade' in Japanese." and the other that " 'Midori' means 'green' or 'greenery' ". :huh: The only thing in common is that jade is green. Maybe that's why the fictional Midori wanted to become a botanist!

And while we're at it, there is also a character named 'Osamu', and another whose last name is 'Tezuka'.
