I have never seen Astro's origin but I know of it, I have read about it online and I think its funny as it is tragic.
The way it always plays out in my head is something like this....

"Excuse me Doctor your son has been killed in a horrbile car accedent..."
"What? Toby.. there is only one resolve."
"What is that Sir should I make the funeral arrangements?"
"No Assistant, I shall build a new son, a more powerful son, a son made not of fragile flesh but steel, I will make him neuclear powered and have powerful weaponry so no one may take my son from me again!"

Like this dude, was a scientist guy and when he remade his son, he didnt just make a robot, he made Astro.
He has machine guns in his freaking hips and lazer beams in his fingers not to meantion how strong the lil guy is!
"Compassion is the scar of all I came through."
Turn your sadness into kindness,
and your uniqueness into strength.

Welcome among us! :)

Tenma was a little more shaken by his son's death than that. :( I like how his sadness seems to turn him into a crazy guy in the 2003 series however! B) That was a great addition to the story IMO! :)

Actually, the lasers in his fingers replaced one of his original 7 powers, that of being able to tell good from bad people. Likewise, the machine guns in his buns were dropped in favor of the particle beam in his left arm in the 2003 series.
