This was one subject that the English crew avoided by artful means. This image is of the okuri-bi ritual part of the Bon Festival, on which people use these boats to represent the spirits of deceased loved ones. In Astroboy, robots are created in the likeness of those loved ones, & they spend a few days with families, then float away in these boats.

Of course the NBC team avoided the discussion of death, & changed it to represent the people who had journeyed to far-away planets.



This guy is taking orders for the robots.

Our little hero just happens to bear a strong resemblence to Jiro:

































This is the eldest son, who has made the mistake of joining Rommel's gang. Now he is trying to leave it & still breathe. However, Jiro borrowed $$ from Rommel, & has not repaid it, since he was presumed dead.

However, I think that the manga version had the debt, while the anime had big-brother trying to leave the gang, but the boss wanting to silence him.



I think his name is Kintaro, I know his English name is 'Zooty.'






How nice, the boss wants to leave parting gifts in every room of the house.






It seems that Jiro is not dead, just trapped in another time!












This time-machine is very different from the one in the manga.
