Opinion on new Astroboy series.
The new ASTRO BOY series is OK to me, but I do not really like the "wimpiness" of the character. This old fart remembers [and have a DVD] of the 60's series [I call it 1.0, the 80's series is 2.0, and the current is 3.0], and I think it really pales to the original series. Since the 80's series was never shown in the USA, I cannot compare it to that series, I only have the 60's series to go by. Once you get past the somewhat corny stuff [strange, back then it wasn't corny, but then 60's stuff is corny here and now in 2004], the show and character had a lot more action, and the storytelling was better [more compact]. Now I know the current show is being written to appeal to today's sensibilities [more Politically Correct, less violent, more "educational"] but the old 60's episodes are in my book more entertaining, and they still are after almost 40 years [an incredible feat to this 45 year old dude].

I grew up with the 80s series, and when I saw the 60s series I went through "style-shock". It took me a little while for the 60s series to appeal to me because it was so different. Eventually it grew on me, then I got into the manga and I was quicker to accept the different style. I loved the new 2003 series straight away, perhaps because I'm a bit more used to the range of styles in which Astro can be protrayed.
I'm sure than any Astro fan who's dedicated to a particular generation can come to like any of the others.

Well most of the 60's cartoons were the best, but the ones in the 70's and 80's tended to suck because parent groups forced producers to tone down the action, put in "positive" messeges, and be more PC. This almost destroyed animation in the USA until "The Simpsons" proved that animated programs can be written on an adult level and not really offend them at the same time.

I don't know if this is an active website or not, but I would just like to say that I don't like the new Astroboy series as much as the old one, because I don't like the new style of drawing, and the music. (Although it is cool that it is back on TV).
What does everyone else think?

I'm with you, I saw the 80's Astroboy, and I like very much the music.
I respect those who think that the music of the new Astro is good, but for me it's very modern.

for me,the 80's series is the most appealing, then probebly the 60's,then the 2003.when i first got into astro boy (probebly around about febuery this year) i'd only ever seen the 2003 series,so of course i loved it.
