I don't know why I opened this topic again, but again, that's exactly what you will find in the link and files I gave you. There is a misunderstanding somewhere. ;)

Yes, that's right, that's what you saw as a kid. That's what the entire world outside of Japan saw.

Which is exactly what I gave you in post #3 of this thread. ;)

A bit of history: the original 1980 series has 52 episodes. Presumably because they were thought too violent to be shown outside of Japan, the Japanese producers decided to take out every part with Skunk, Walpur G(u?)iss and young Atlas from the first two Japanese episodes. What was left of those two episodes was combined into one single episode in English and I believe every other dub. For that reason, there are only 51 episodes in the English version, while the original Japanese series, as I said earlier, has 52.

So, basically, the first English episode is called "The Birth of Astro Boy" and is made of half of the first Japanese episode, "The Birth of Astro Boy", and half of the second Japanese episode, "Astro vs Atlas". However, the flashbacks in later episodes remained in the English version, which is why we end up with flashbacks of events that happened only in the Japanese version.

Does that make sense? ;)

"Unregistered" wrote:Are you saying that there are none?? Or that there are 80's episodes that have Atlas young the whole show??

There are two 1980 episodes featuring young Atlas, which are on the server I linked to earlier.

"Unregistered" wrote:I must admit that I am watching the 80's episodes again and have only made it through about 20 of them so maybe there is one that I missed when I was a kid and haven't watched yet that fills in all the background. I want the episode where Atlas rebuilds Livian and is taught evil by Skunk.

I had understood what you wanted. :)

"Unregistered" wrote:P.S. that link isn't working for me anymore so I can't check, but the episodes that I have by those names just show flashbacks.

I'm confused, because there are no flashbacks of young Atlas in "The Birth of Astro Boy": there can't be a flashback of something that is actually happening (or that hasn't happened yet). It is indeed young Atlas' story. Also, to my knoweldge, there is no episode called "Astro vs Atlas" in the English version.

All of this to say that I do not know where you found those episodes and who called them this way, but trust me, the full Japanese episodes are on that server, that's for sure, and unless I made a mistake, they are the two files I mentioned (let's say I'm 99.9% sure that those are the right files).

As for the server, it's true, it doesn't work for me right now (but it did when I gave you the link). However, I can contact the owner of the server. Let's wait a little to see if it comes back, and if it doesn't, I'll send a message to notify the owner. The server will work again at some point. ;)

P.S.: And if you are Canadian, you may have noticed that CBC had done a "great" job of removing 4 to 5 minutes from each episode, not to mention modifying many scenarios... :d oh:  There's a thread detailing all the changes (at least for the first few episodes for the moment), I'll find it if you are interested.

Welcome Nick, since you have now registered! :)

The server works for me right now.

I don't know if I'm a bigger fan than you are, but I've been hanging around here for almost two years with even bigger fans than I am, so I've learned a lot thanks to them!

I live in Quebec. It would be so great if SRC/CBC released the Astroboy series with both the French and the Canadian English dub, since the edit seem to be exactly the same.

I do now own anything Astroboy related, except for the DVDs (I own both the Australian release and the American release of the 1980 series). That's the most important to me anyway. :D

That link works now but clicking on the titles doesn't do anything. It looks like it is trying but even searching I can't find it on my system. Also thanx for the welcome!
