I had another look at my copy of the 22nd volume Jeffbert, and you are indeed right.
Maybe I should look at volumes 6-8 sometime as well. Maybe I'm getting mixed up, but wasn't there some alternative story within those Chronicles behind Astro's return after being melted in the sun somewhere somehow?

No, the Chronicles are an entirely different story arc. They do not even consider the close encounter with Mr. Sun as having occurred.
Vol. 22 does have 2 diffent versions of Atom's resurrection, though.
Publication, sequence of story in that publication, Dark Horse title, TOW Title, date of original publication:
Although the latter version was purely humorous, with actors usually typcast as villains cast here as bureaucrats haggling over the characteristics of the new Atom.
Afill creates a set of ahem, you know, as the others have decided to make the new Atom not only more human, but human.
