It's true.... Adults still think that any cartoon it's just for kids... wha the.......?? There are some cartoon that are especially focused to adults!! AND, even if they are for children, those animes had a strong message... things like "love your parents" or " you never know what you have until you don't have it anymore".. or stuff like that.
In my times (I'm a little grow up xD), I remember great anime like Candy, Remy, Lady Oscar... Jet Marte!!! Thay was just amazing.. with a excelent and great story... I remember I criyed a lot with Lady Oscar and Candy... What about Jet Marte?? Remember that chapter where Dr. Yama (Marte's dad) dies??? It was so sad!!. I really apreciate and love my dad... I don't know what I'll do if he dies...
I think that our generation it's the last good one... now kids are stupids, superficial, they not even respect they parent... Some anime is just crap, but still are good ones.. and Astroboy is one of those... but... they just mutilated it to turn it, like Dragonrider said, in another Naruto.

Soul Rokkuman, I take it that you're Hispanic? Lots of places in Europe got better anime and better anime treatment than America did. (Jet Marte was originally 'Jetter Mars'! And yes, I remember the scene with Dr. Yamanoue
)
Well, kids...today is the retail release date for those "new" single discs of the 2003 series. On the bright side, anyone who picks it up and gets interested is going to be perplexed by the lack of a Japanese track, which will thus increase the percentage of people who think Sony America is dumb. Maybe a larger outrage will make them turn around.
But keep up hope, guys! Harmony Gold used to be afraid to release Robotech on DVD because adding the Japanese track would reveal the fact that Robotech is three different shows. But they did make a proper release! Years, years and years later...until then, I'm gonna get some conversion software and put up the original episodes sooner or later!

Fauna, yup, I'm from Chile, and some years ago we had good anime treatment.. but, since year 2000 we have the same anime editing and treatment as America... because all the anime series that we got are edited or dubed in English, and they just redub to Latin Spanish here from English dub.
I miss the 90's anime~!!!! u___u

I'm joining this community solely to say that I'm working on getting fansubs. I have the first 24 episodes torrenting, including the cut one, but there's a lack of seeds at the moment, so I don't have anything finished yet (some episodes are watchable with jumps here and there; gotta love MKV containers).
[EDIT]
Amusingly, the video quality of the fansubs appears to be higher than the Region 1 official DVDs, although I've only seen the official version once, so I might be mistaken.

To expand on the differences between Dub and Raw;
The dub stays relatively true to the scripts of the original, theres no real major changes in any character, most of the changes are removals of songs, different background music and some dialogue and scene edits.
For example in the first episode you see a bit more of Atom exploring and playing. Plus Atom is a bit more surprised to see what he's capable of initally and he's full of incredible childlike curiosity. This is still in Astro to a degree but he's a bit less surprised, and they cut out some nice interaction between a girl and her father, which is a nice bit of foreshadowing in the original. They also mostly cut out the idea that the Electric Generator went nuts because of sabotage linked to Astro's rebirth
In Rocket Ball at the end of the japanese episode he falls asleep on Ochanomizu's arm while he talks and some slightly spooky imagery of Tenma's virus at work is cut. In the original the robot cheats because of the virus controlling it, the dub makes it sound like it was a slightly more concious decision on the robots part.
But in defense of the dub - despite the needless changes and cuts it stays close to the script. Some episodes like Rainbow Canyon and Denkou are actually pretty much the same in both versions and characters for the most part remain true to the original. Sometimes lame puns and catchphases get littered in; the first half of the dub does this a fair bit. But Astro is still childlike in his ways and pretty much the same despite Sony's efforts to ditch the deeper storyline for the action hero aspect. (an extra on the DVD set shows american execs asking for this expressly in the anime, the japanese said "Hell no we want to explore this angle")
Not to mention despite being billed as a kids show, they still did tackle the daddy issue with Tenma and Atlas/Daichi, Reno being abandoned as a child, prosecution of the robots and anti-robot groups...
Once you get past the first inital batch of episodes the dub gradually improves, The Robotonia saga for the most part is amazingly good and the dub eventually relents on its hesitation dealing with the father-son subplot. I also like a certain majority of the voices in the dub.
That said the original will always be the stronger version but all things considered while the dub isnt exact or the best it does a good enough job and its the easiest version of the series to get a hold of as theres nothing sub-wise past episode 6 online and those Korean DVD's will likely cost a bit now
