One of his characters could play a villain in one manga and a hero in another. Tezuka really got into his fictional system - he had the characters listed with resumes, past roles and even salaries! It's all covered in the book "The Art of Osamu Tezuka, a great book that came out last month. It's very good.

Does this book actually list the salaries, or only state that there was such a system?

It actually shows a hand-written list by Tezuka of various stars and their salaries! It's in Japanese, of course...I can't read it.

Just wanted to let the folks here know that the Astro Boy movie placed 7th in Italy's box office last weekend. Given that it was up against Christmas Carol and Princess and the Frog, that's not too bad.

Also, here in America, Astro Boy picked up an additional 130 theaters over the weekend (which I think is a rare thing - usually movies lose theaters this long into a film's run), rose 80% in revenue and raked in an additional $80,000. Now, I'm no expert in these matters, but I can only surmise from this that word-of-mouth - however belatedly - has kicked in about this movie, and it's doing enough business to warrant being placed in more theaters. I think this is encouraging. Yes, the movie is still an underperformer - but people ARE responding to it positively. I think our little robot boy can be proud. :)

 I already saw this image in God of Comics: Osamu Tezuka and the creation of post World War II manga. Why is it that they wave it in our faces, but refuse to translate it? :ninja:

I occasionally see ads for the game on CN. I must admit that I was surprised to see one this late, but it seems to indicate that there is a moderate interest in Atom here in the USA. :astro:
