The name of astroboy
I was certain that I did indeed respond to QUOTE
and state that this was correct.

Would it happen to be that little girl who Atom came accross while flying around the city. Astro shook her dad around like a rag doll and all Atom wanted to do was walk with him. I don't think they actually gave her a name though.

its bether if we call him astroboy that name is bether knowing the miglty atom <_<
well his name is Mighty Atom .... Astroboy is just the name given to him by the English dubbing company back in the 60's. Although this is the official English name it is not the name his creator called him. Mighty Atom is still quite well known, all the Atom fans i know prefer to call him Atom and use the original Japanese names. If you ask any Atom fan in the know they will be able to tell you his original name and even those who know anything of the history will easily be able to quote it. Besides Astroboy was only used for the English dubb IIRC.

well his name is Mighty Atom
If you really want to get technical his name is Tetsuwan Atomu better known as Mighty Atom. But Astroboy is the name that the majority of fans know him as. but as mentioned in this thread, he goes by soo many names, Tobio, Toby, Atomu, Astro, Atom........ call him Fred if you want to

The word "Astroboy" can be heard in one of the Japanese songs from the 80s version, so it definately was accepted by then. I personally prefer Astroboy over Atom or Atomu, since I speak English. But it's becoming increasingly hard to refer to the other characters by their translated names because they're different with each series.
Except for Astroboy of course, so I'm going to stick with that. Most people in my country have heard of Astroboy, but have no idea about Atomu.

Yes the 80's ending theme..... "Astroboy Astroboy, Mighty Atomu"
well to be exactly correct "asutoroboi asutoroboi, maiti atomu". The new series is more closely linked with the name too (eg on the capsule in he is awakened from in the first ep and the little girl calling him an Astroboy ^^).
Out of all the the dubbs Astroboy is probably the most commonly used. However, altho i love that name due to childhood nostalgia ^^ i most often use Tetsuwan Atomu, Atom for short of course.
Tetsuwan Atomu translates literally to "Iron Arm Atom"
True altho most of the Japanese merchandise (official) uses Mighty Atom ...if English is used at all on the items ^^;
