:( That would be a shame. The most of my 80's tapes I've gotten are from SirenVisual, the other few from Astroboy.com.au, though they're appearing to be Siren tapes too  .

Good thing I buyed them as they still were available <_< .

Do you absolutely have to have them on VHS?

Do they have to be 'authentic retail product'?

Cos if not, aren't all the episodes on Anapan's ftp?
If not, they will be as soon as my new friend GIR either gets the CDs to me, or teaches me how to make them from my own set of VHS tapes.. ;)

As for the DVD releases, don't get to worked up about them. I nearly had pink kittens when I forst read the madman boards.. but it's still not mentioned officially anywhere yet.

I am not all that interested in BotP to be honest. Even tho it was my favorite cartoon from the ages of say 6 to 10. I was 'Jason' in our schools official G-Force team. heh. But back in.. er.. '97 (I think) I saw an episode of "Eagle Riders" and couldnt get over how much like BotP it was. Several days of internet and burning eyes later I just cannt look on the dubs as 'worth spit' when compared to even the small snippets of the original three series of Gatchaman it was taken from. Man, has any Anime been butchered and violated as badly as this one?

Of course, like every aussie of my (approximate) age I too was addicted to Star Blazers. I hope and pray that Space Battleship Yomato and the Wave Motion Gun will blaze its way onto DVD.

:D Absolutely, yeah. It's just an awesome sight to look at the cassette sleeves' spine rank.

Hmmmm i guess 90% of people here don't know all that much about Madman...or at least how their releasing works. In general when they acquire a license to a series it will be announced at a convention or major event. Otherwise the information will show up on their website in the news or forum. When a release date (month) has been settled on for sure it will be listed on the calendar for release....until then discussion on it will usually stay alive or updates be in the forum (such as whether there will be a box set the art for the box or dvd covers and any extras). Just because this is a forum does not mean this is not official information.

People who are in the Madman business actually read and reply and provide new information when they can if anyone asks. The community is very fan orientated and very tied to the internet so if you have questions i strongly advise signing up to their forum and watching the threads and adding your own questions.

Madman usually release what they have licensed a couple of months after they announce it but it all depends on people getting the material to them etc etc. Just because it is not listed on their website or release calendar does NOT mean it is not coming out. I actually got the Madman email newsletter today and it lists Astro Boy (80s) along with Crest of the Stars as newly licensed and coming up titles.

Siren Entertainment no longer sell the videos because they no longer have the rights to the series, these have been passed onto Madman and i'm very glad of the fact that Madman have a better reputation than Siren in the anime world..... Now that it's under Madman's wing we get the DVD format, we get hopefully a hell of a lot better visual and sound quality and correctly ordered episodes for sure. Siren's video quality was horrible, it looked like a tape of tv! I've seen the Japanese VHS released by Pioneer and the video quality was so supberb for a tape that it wouldn't look much better on DVD!

So yeah if you want the tapes 11-17 then hunt around anime shops (Cartoon Gallery have a few) or eBay or second hand sales (with the DVD release a lot of people will surely sell of their VHS collection so you can grab it cheap then). But if you're not fussed for format then wait for Madman to release DVD, it won't take that long and it will be way better quality
Kimi no kokoro de, catch the future!

Well there you have it. If Haruka Sensei says so then it must be true.

Yes Virginia, there is a DVD set coming.

Does Sensei really means Master? That's quite a promotion from Chan to Sensei, congratulations :D
Would you know by chance if they will release japanese audio with english subtitles? That's exactly what I am looking for, but it seems that the only ones are pirated DVDs, and I don't want to give fakers one cent

Aesthetically, if you don't mind a copy then that's fine.
Legally, I doubt the police will be knocking on your door for having unauthorised copies of Astroboy.
Morally, that's up to you.

Danny, regarding BotP: Man, has any Anime been butchered and violated as badly as this one?

I read about one anime that was the combined butchering of two seperate and unrelated anime series. They just chopped footage together and made a whole new cartoon.
Battle Of The Planets was later re-dubbed as G-Force, then as another one (Eagle Riders maybe?). I've heard they got progressively worse!

Wow! Thanks for all the info Haruka-chan! I might drop them an e-mail with my DVD features wish list. :D

Fafner, sensei means "teacher" or "learned one". I suspect it's somewhat formal, as my Japanese teacher prefers not to be called sensei. But he does prefer we say sayonara (goodbye) to him than the more casual ja mata ne (seeya later).
