I for one, will not be surpised if the reports were erred.
Big News concerning Astroboy and
I cannot believe they will make a true sub/dub version that has the same version both sub and dub and selectable by the DVD player's controls for that price. It is simply not economically feasible. <_< Either they will have both the subbed version and dubbed (and edited) versions on the discs, or (& this seems the most plausible) one or the other.

I don't think it's that hard, I've mixed my own dual audio softsub of episode 1. It's just a matter of mixing across to the Japanese audio where there's an edit. I didn't even use professional tools.
Of course, episodes 1 + 2 present a problem as there are voice edits. Uran's songs, edits from The Return of Queen Cleopatra, and Tezuka's live intro also have voice edits, but they're the only ones I can think of. The rest of the cuts throughout the series are minor and pretty straighforward.
Also, they may not release it uncut - it would be even easier to make a dual audio edited version (apart from episodes 1 + 2, they could do the same thing as Madman for them).

I think what they'll do is put the Japanese with subs on one side and the English dubs on the flip side. This is done with a lot of anime dvds, I have some like this. As far as the price being so cheap, well the price for the US release for the 2003-4 series was cheap too, and it had 10 episodes on each disc.
I have faith that this report is accurate, because it was a correction in itself of an earlier rumor that said Anchor Bay was releasing the 60's series. Well Anchor Bay said no we're not, we don't have the rights to the 60's series, but our sister company Manga Entertainment will be releasing the 80's series this fall, and then it gave the details.
So there you have it. It's from a reliable source, not a rumor. Until someone shows evideicne that it's a rumor, I'll believe it.
I'm not going to let anyone bring me down after this good news.

Here's the official site to the 80's dvd:

Just scroll down to November, in the coming soon section.
It's not clickable yet, but check back to see when it is, and when it is, it'll probably tell all.
Here's hoping it's both subs and dubs.

INteresting note. I picked up Vol 1 of Gatchaman last night for $18 Cdn. I believe it's $14 American. There are 6 eps of the disc and they had all the original footage on the DVD. What ADV was make a completely new dub for the show. They also had Japanese audio with English subs. Now this line of thinking bodes well for the idea that we may finally get the original Astroboy since Gatchaman was in the same posistion Astroboy was and if ADV managaed to pull that off for Gatchaman why can't Manga pull this off for Astroboy?
Manga has it listed down as $39.98! That can't possibly be accurate. Can It?

I don't think it's worth it. Gatchaman was edited a LOT, I can see why they would want to redub that. But as for Astroboy, the big changes were made to the first two episodes. They were actually dubbed in their entirety and sent back to Japan, so they must exist somewhere. The majority of the remaining cuts don't contain any talking.
