I think Italian name for him is Boy Star<-- the link is to a thread on this forum, that itself links to a google translation of an Italian only encyclopedia that has fairly decent history of our hero's history.

I believe "Boy Star" is only the Google translation for "Astro Boy". I checked in Babelfish and "astro" is a real Italian word that means "star". The Google translator probably couldn't tell that this was something that shouldn't have been translated.
In the original Italian page, his name is "Astro Boy" throughout the text.
Edit: And the first sentence of the text says he's known as "Astro Boy" in Italy.

Ahhh! I goofed! How could I have made such an assumption? I do not remember if I first saw the translated version or the native version. I knew that 'astro' was of Latin derivation, & should have checked before posting.
