Many of the robot characters in Tezuka's manga are supposed to be so human like that the human characters in the manga sometimes can't tell they ARE robots. Half the time this is true for Atom, but humans can often tell he is a robot (or maybe they just KNOW he is by reputation?) Tezuka draws his characters so cartoon like that his readers don't have a clue. In 'Pluto' we the audience readers see the characters the way the OTHER manga characters see them, a VERY interesting concept! (Tezuka did some manga with more realistic artwork, "Adolf" is draw this way even though he has some star system characters such as Lamp in it.)

I never thought of it like that. That's a really interesting concept. There were some times when I got confused myself as to who was and who wasn't a robot. I liked how the artist redrew Gesicht (spelling?). I actually forgot that he was a robot when I first started reading it because of how human he looked. It's really quite interesting.
It looks to me like Tezuka tried to give Adolf a more realistic look while still keeping it in his style with the big eyes and such.

Gesicht is really charismatic and he's humanized than the Astro Boy original story version ;)

I wish they would animate Pluto, but I know they won't. Sigh.

For a little while I was very optimistic that they would this year for the 50 year anniversary of the Astro Boy anime and the 10 year anniversary of Urasawa's Pluto, as his art style is very pleasing to the screen as done in Monster.

SUPPOSEDLY a live-action/CG movie is in the works from the same people who created "Despicable Me"

Nobody's released anything new about it recently. :(

From what I understand, the CG would be for special effects and robots such as Pluto. The other characters (including Atom) would be played by actors - I know what you mean, I don't care for CG stuff either. It's like "fake" animation or something!

I really don't think a live action Pluto would be all that great to be honest, and I don't mind when CG is used for special effects in these movies. But 100# rendered CG animation really ticks me off, really I become quite angry when I see it.

If they were going to make this into animation it would be beautiful if it was done how modern anime is animated, which can be so stunningly beautiful at times. Granted CG is used to render the animation now, but it still looks like it's cell-based, and that's all I care about.

I think it would be wonderful animated in Urasawa's style.

Well, it hasn't happened yet . . . maybe it will end up that way!! That would be awesome.

That's all we need, a remake of the ORIGINAL live action Astro Boy from the 50's (I've seen a few clips of it on youtube, and some of the early Godzilla movies were better made!).
