And unless I find the original Japanese says Lodar/Violet is a boy, I'm convinced she's a girl. Those eyelashes are too big.

Lines were unnecessary, becuase of the shade, which is missing here.


Now that you mention the eye lashes, I must agree, this is a girl. However, I did not think that plants were divided into 2 sexes. But what about the Vegitron from the old Quark show. That was clearly a male. :D

Yeah, that's what they ended up doing in the 80s series. Techniques change over time, and maybe they didn't think lines looked as good in that medium (and in black & white). The manga used lines without shading.

Curious point: one day, I told a fellow otaku about the cutesy of Tezuka's rabbits.
I said her: "Tezuka draws the cutest rabbits of this world. There's one on Buddha which has such a stylized and delicate body that looks like a ballet dancer". I'm serious! I told her that!
