Here is something that you seem to be omitting about Atom's baby brother! The actual translation of the symbols which seem to be "chi" in English is "Ti"! Therefore the actual name of Atom's baby brother should be "Ti-tan"! "Chitan" in Japanese is actually a "borrow word" for the English word "titanium"! Thus Atom's baby brother's name is "Titanium", just as Atom's sister's name is "Uranium"! His name is hyphenated because in Japanese romaji this means that the last vowel when pronounced should have an extended pronounciation! Also his name is a play on the word for titanium and the loud wailing sound he makes whenever he cries! Thus his name should actually be pronounced "Chiitan" or "Ti(e)---tan"! The fact that he has a loud "cry" seems to have also been omitted from your description of Ti-tan's first adventure! In the manga version Ti-tan is kidnapped, but aids in his own rescue when while searching for him Atom hears his loud cry and heads to the rescue! The joke here is that because of his loud cry, his kidnappers are only too happy to give him back! His manga adventure was published in the last issue of "TetsuWan Atom Club" magazine which came out the same month his first episode was broadcast! (He only appeared in one episode of the manga and that episode has never been reprinted, but a synopsis of the episode appears in "The Complete TetsuWan Atom Book" which I translated for my own knowledge!) One last thing, F. Schodt in his book, The Astro Boy Essays" lists the title of the episode # 165 as "The Baby Commotion"!

I was aware of all but the part about the name also meaning 'wailing.' I take it that you have not seen the image-laden thread 165 A Great Fuss Over Babies, because you make mention of things that were noted therein, as though I had omitted them. BTW, I did provide this URL in the 1st post in this thread. However, I may not have mentioned that 'Chitan' means 'titanium' there, but I did note it here:
Jeffbert's post: Picture the caption game
I do appreciate your contribution, though!

Although he is hard to see, Chitan is on the right side, as indicated by all the tears.

Ti-tan can also be seen to full effect in episode# 193, which is included in the second box set of DVDs of the 1960s series! By the way is the scene of him tearing the screen from episode#178? (And after all I did say you "seemed to omit", not that you did "omit" some information! I believe Ti-tan was introduced as a comic relief character, but your assertion that Ti-tan is inspired by Swee' Pea is interesting! Come to think of it, I do believe Swee' Pea also did his share of super-crying!)

This is from #173 Robotty, in which a tiny robot requests Dr. O to create a tiny companion. But this results in the tiny robots developing an entire civilization right in the middle of the M. O. S!
However, in the incident pictured above, Atom & family were having a picnic at the beach. Chitan became upset, & Atom had carried him out to sea, to spare the family from his destructive crying.
BTW, here is the next frame:
As loud as Chitan cries, Rena clearly emits a shockwave when she cries:

Thank you! You must have a complete DVD box set of TetsuWan Atom's 1960 adventures to be able to attach so many images from them! (By the way, who the frac is Rena?)

All 36 discs.

Rena is a little girl robot sent out by Cyber Dyne to repossess (Handmaid) May, the robot (doll) in the guy's hand.
