Thanks! And yeah...the flying part was awesome!!!! So exhilarating - you feel like you're flying too! I've got the movie soundtrack and the music for that sequence is thrilling. But then the movie music overall is thrilling. John Ottman did an incredible job with it. My only quibble...I do wish the original theme from the American version of the 1960's Astro Boy show could have been in there somewhere. It's a cool song. So memorable...when I saw the old episodes for the first time on Adult Swim, it's that song that struck me the most.
BTW, the soundtrack CD is awesome. It comes with a little booklet with neat pictures from the movie (including Astro and Cora hugging..awww!!!), and a cool jacket cover (which has the diagram of the Astro Boy robot on it). Plus there are comments by Ottoman and the movie's director, David Bowers. BTW, David is on Twitter! I'm trying to get up the courage to tweet him and tell him how much I loved his movie! *gulp* maybe someday...
Glad to see you're part of the forum, and I agree wholeheartedly with your review! One of the most underrated and best films of the year, and definitely my favorite as well!
The flying/mountain scene is my favorite scene of the movie! The visuals and music come together and it's just beautiful - I've seen the movie twice too and both times I was positively glued to the scene. I was sort of afraid the second time that scene would lose its magic, and if anything, I enjoyed it even more the second time around! You're absolutely right about how it captures the feeling of flight - that's what struck me; you could feel the sheer power of Astro and what it's like to fly like that and realize what you're capable of; it really does feel like you're right along with him.
Also, nice to see some love for Ottman's soundtrack. I can't stop listening to it personally - I think it's greatest score of the year! Unfortunately I was so anxious to start listening to it when I got home from my first viewing of the movie I purchased on iTunes without thinking about the booklet, so yeah - wishing I'd gone the physical CD route now since I usually do that for stuff I really love, but I really appreciate your description of what you get in the booklet - I may still consider picking up a physical copy. ^.^
