I agree that Cora poses a problem, because she is human, and Astro is a robot (but with a human soul). I wouldn't want to pair him with anyone else, so what to do? Well, we have to ask ourselves questions about Cora: why did she run away? Why was Astro so attracted to her (yes, she's pretty, and he is a guy); he knows very well the inherent problem with hooking up with a human, yet he obviously wanted her. Kristen Bell described Cora as both Wendy and Peter Pan. What if, for some reason, Cora can't age either, and that's why she chose to leave the everyday world and become an outcast?

Questions, questions...

Just as Astro really became a reincarnation of Dr. Tenma's son, Toby, in the same way, Cora would have to become a robot and have her memories transferred to a robotic likeness of her as well. Then, they would both be robots, and neither of them would age. Of course, Cora's human body wouldn't survive the "transfer", so it would probably die or be kept in a frozen, comatose state. I guess this is one scenario. The other alternative would be for Astro to become a "real" boy, but I don't see that happening.

I agree with this.

"Dragonrider1227" wrote:Could you imagine Astro Boy in High School with the High School mentality, but still physically 9-13?

Honestly, yes. He'd be cool anyway since he could beat all his classmates at whatever sport they are doing! It's obvious he's a robot and if people have started accepting him, I don't see them suddenly rejecting him just because he'd be smaller. It's a lot worse being a robot than just being smaller.

I'll go back to the 1980 series: we've seen Astro in charge of a large spaceship in an episode, in which he was giving orders to human adults.

Yeah, I agree. But, in the official comic, they basically told us that she ran away from her parents because they were so busy and she felt like they didn't want her because they paid so little attention to her (or something along those lines). Of course, that's a good idea to delve into.

I personally believe that she's a normal human and the reason that Astro fell for her (and the reason Cora fell for him) is, in fact, his human soul. I mean, I believe his human soul would give him human "instincts" for lack of a better word. Basically, they would cause him to do things that other robots wouldn't because they lack human souls, such as fall in love with a human. And the reason that Cora would fall in love with him is his human soul (personality and such, aside from his killer looks XD). As Dr. Elefun said, "That robot may have had more humanity than most of us."

And on the note of Astro knowing that he could not be with Cora, yet wanting her anyway. I'm just going to go with the good, old-fashioned, fangirl excuse that "True love conquers all!" XD XD XD But no, seriously, I do believe that both of them recognize that problem, and that may be what kept them from revealing their true feelings for each other in the movie (I mean, the most we got was a hug. TT_TT). That would make a good fanfiction, if there was a way for Astro to age (preferably) or for Cora to remain forever young. *Sigh* A fangirl can dream. X3

Well, since the world Astro lives in is so advanced, maybe there's a way of stopping the aging process...but here's another idea: I saw a documentary the other day about this little girl who's 16 but who has the body of a toddler:

http://abcnews.go.com/2020/Health/story?id=7880954&page=1

Amazing, isn't it? So what if Cora had something like the same problem, only she's much more functional...she's, say, 14, but she's unable to age any further, she has to watch everyone around her age and grow up and marry and live normal lives, while she's, basically, a freak. That would be one reason for her to run away, I'd think (teenagers hate to feel like they're weird or different). And maybe when Astro first saw Cora, he sensed that here was the perfect person for him, if only because she was as ageless as he. How did he know? Well, he does have X-ray vision, and he's brilliant (one can only assume that Dr. Tenma made sure he had a good medical education as well as rocket science, robotics, etc). Remember when he was pressing Cora to confide in him? What did he want her to confide? Maybe he'd figured her out, and was hoping she'd confide in him, and then he could confide in her, and it'd maybe work out because they have this one big thing in common...

Anyway, it's fun to think about...and it's so much fun to talk to you guys about this!

Yeah, I've considered that possibility, but the problem I have with that is basically the same problem Dr. Tenma originally had with Astro: a robot could never be exactly the same as the original. Astro wasn't exactly the same as Toby, and a robotic version of Cora wouldn't neccessarily be the same as the human Cora. And even though that would make it possible for them to be together, we can't be sure that Astro would fall in love with the robotic Cora, or that robotic Cora would fall/stay in love with Astro, since she wouldn't be the same. I mean, Dr. Tenma never really accepted Astro as the new Toby. He just accepted him as his second son, really. And I believe that Astro wouldn't accept robotic Cora as the new Cora, but rather as a second love, if he ever fell in love with her at all. That's just my opinion.

And on the "Astro becoming a real boy" thing, that's another idea I've speculated, but the idea in my head is kinda unrealistic (heck, what am I saying? The cartoon's unrealistic! It's a cartoon! Anything can happen in a cartoon! XD). If I ever get around to it and anyone actually wants to read it, I may post it. But IDK. You'll have to tell me if you want me to write it.

Yeah, I think I saw that in one of my mom's People magazines. Sad, really.

It's interesting to hear all these theories and stuff on how either Astro could age or Cora could remain ageless. I feel smart hearing all these intelligent-sounding theories and giving back some of my own. XD These are all very good ideas. Great thinking peoples. :3

You know, Cora unable to grow is actually an interesting concept. In fact, it could be a common factor that helps bring them together. The fact that they'll both be the same age.

In regards to Astro growing, all cartoons and the manga have touched upon that topic. Granted the 2003 series lost the episode concerning that in the dub because Sony was retarded or something.

Fact is Astro can't grow. And being the creation of a madman's passion it's unlikely anyone would be able to rebuild his body the same way Tenma did. In the movie even it seems to me that it's unlikely Tenma could manage to replicate the feat of building Astro. It was more of a one time, luck thing.

In the cartoons and Manga Tenma gets put into positions that leave him unable to build Astro further, and Dr. O'Shay simply lacks the genius to do anything further with him.

As for that comment about everyone thinking him human at first in the film and such, well you're speaking out of context. In the old stuff Astro is in the ROBOT Circus, so therefore the connection is pretty obvious. In the 2003 series the entire Ministry of Science finds him and know he's a robot from inspection, and O'Shay introduces him to several scientists, AND several hours later Astro stops a rampaging power plant robot in front of the entire police force. So again, the connection is pretty obvious.

In the film Astro keeps a lower profile to begin with and of course the people on the ground have no idea he's anything but human. Until they have it confirmed.

Back to the aging thing, robots suffer the curse of immortality. Astro is truly an "Eternal Boy" and will never age, but will keep on living even while humans around him age and die.
