Currently this is our favourite scenes chart:
1- Astro's first flight (4 votes)
2 - Astro's birth (2 votes)
3 - Astro versus red core, Astro rejected by doc Tenma, painting Zog, Astro digs a mountain (1 vote).
i think first flight, birth, red core and Astro being rejected by his fathers are the most brilliant scenes in the movie. I didn't like much the last two because Astro digging a mountain was copied by an old intro; the scene where they paint Zog was funny but it wasn't very useful.
I can picture the scene. Astro (crying): "Dad it's terrible! My underpants and boots don't come off! What happened to my nipples? What happened to my belly-button? What happened to my hair? What happened to my genitals?"
Tenma (thinking and angry): "I've created this robot only yesterday evening and I am just getting tired of his questions"

Astro: and uh... what happened to my nipples?

He creates Astro with super strength, rocket feet, arm cannons and tush machine guns too, so a horrible fate never befalls him like it did Toby. Did it never cross Tenma's grieving mind that Astro would figure it out sooner or later he was a robot?
He must've been so desperate to have his son back that he just tossed all reason aside and focused on bringing back his Toby without a thought on the consequences.
That would've been funny though, having a scene of Astro going to take a wizz and realise he can't. And dude the hair should've been a big give away to people. What did they think he put glue in it!?
Oh and my second favourite scene's gotta be the one with Astro and Cora

Did it never cross Tenma's grieving mind that Astro would figure it out sooner or later he was a robot?
I've been thinking about that. Remember, Tenma was determined to have the robot think it WAS Toby. So it stands to reason that Tenma would remove those memories relating to, um...bodily functions, or anything else that would give the ruse away. As for Astro's built-in weaponry, perhaps Tenma hoped they would never be used, and if the occasion arose where they WERE used, he could maybe tell Toby that he's mostly human, with just a few modifications, a la the Six Million Dollar Man. But it does make sense, especially with the weaponry, that Tenma wasn't thinking rationally when he created Astro. He was focused on assuaging his grief and guilt. After all, there's also the fact that Astro can't grow or age. How Tenma was going to get around that is a very big question. One could imagine that Tenma could eventually have built older versions of Astro and transplanted the original brain and blue core into them, so that Astro could "grow up". But whether he was thinking that far ahead is anyone's guess."Alittleacorn" wrote:
I can picture the scene. Astro (crying): "Dad it's terrible! I'd also like to add that scene where Astro is talking with Dr. Elefun just before he's deactivated. That is a marvelous scene. The animators and Freddie Highmore outdid themselves with Astro's expressions and dialogue. I don't think I've seen any other animated film that has a scene with that much emotional power. That scene alone should have garnered the film an Oscar nomination...if life was fair.

I don't know what my favorite scene was but my favorite scenes are when astro is born, and when that evil president dude thinks he is still a robot but he really turned back into a human and he has his fist out thinking that he is shooting and says " pew pew pew " , and when that little girl got the chainsaw LOL
