Back to topic: I think that the film made Tenma reconcile with Atom because the writers felt that parents would dislike a film about a boy whose father had disowned him. Note that the other 'castaway' kids were also reunited with their parents. It could be that the '03 series had complaints about this, & the film's writers knew of them. But I am only speculating.
Opinions of the CGI 09 Movie
Dr. Jerk: I have a firm basis for a book right now; but most chapters need completion or polishing. I just lack concrete ideas of what theme the book should have, plus a few other things. I made a thread about it, but it had few responses.

No, I just disagree with you.He was so bright, but so very foolish as to step in front of the console that the adults were all standing behind, just to get a better view of robots fighting to the death. Laser blasts flying hither & thither, he still stepped into the arena. He deserved to be vaporized. There, I said it, so hate me if you must.
I think there is a difference between being able to do calculus and having common sense. As a robot, he should be able to compute mathematical answers with no sweat, but probably the only way to get "common sense" is through experience with consequences and having those recorded. Of course, I have yet to see the CGI film, so perhaps my words have little relevance. Maybe try posting a thread about it here? Except I don't think there's a lot of older users here...
And the '03 series did had some complaints, so I've heard. I've heard that it wasn't very popular in Japan because it 'wasn't accurate enough'. Well I guess that is the case when you consider changes to the cast roles and the removal of others, but I found it to be more 'accurate' to the human-robot conflict theme.
Except that doesn't relate to the film. Actually, the film never really had the same themes as the other series.

I really liked how Astro was portrayed as a 13 or 14 year old kid, if he was any older, it might have completely killed the movie since some people find that even 13 years old is too old for Astro. I would've really liked to see the movie be a little bit more like the '03 series, but instead of Tenma going crazy and Elephun/O'shay takes care of Astro, Tenma rejects Astro and then accepts him later on in the movie. Another thing that I didn't like was that the characters were all messed up. Cora looked like a bobble head, Tenma was a skeleton with some skin slapped on himself, Astro's arms seemed to be too big since everyone else's arms were like thin sticks. President Stone looked hideous, and I also think that the movie could have done well without him. Other than that, it was a pretty good movie. The plot would have been better if it was Astro facing off against some powerful enemy like Atlas or Pluto instead of the Peacekeeper, which never exsisted in any Astro Boy tv show or manga.
