Probably my biggest qualm is...Astro's outfit. *ducks as fellow members pelt her with nuts and bolts* I much prefer him in "civilian clothing". In the 1960's anime it doesn't matter because he never is off duty, but in the 2003 anime he goes about his business in his trunks and boots. :d oh: If you're in society, dress like appropriately. I'm not bothered by him showing "skin", but nothing says "Robot! Here!" than him dressing differently from the humans.
I have to say, this is very well put!!! I got used to him looking "robotty" because for almost 40 years I only thought of him "on duty" 24/365. The subsequent animes really flesh out his personality (no pun intended), so the clothes really are appropriate.
@Jeffbert -- I remember seeing her throw that switch!! That was REALLY FUNNY (more Tezuka slap-stick!). But you know, they never really "introduced" him in the 60's anime (at least the English dubbed version). He's just kind of "there" and very brash. That teacher/P.I. role is great though.
Come to think of it, Dinny and Specs (from the 60's) didn't seem like they'd be likely friends for Astro, either -- just goofy and noisy. Yet in the subsequent animes and manga, they are much more developed personalities (Abercrombie and Tomao).
