A character from another Tezuka Productions anime series, "Triton of the Sea" (a series not released in English) is featured at the beginning of the episode. The character's name is Pippy. (Although in the the American dubbed version, the character is known as Pepe. He's some kind of dolphin boy. I don't know the character's name from the Canadian dub.) The episode is also one of the better episodes.

I  :astro: :)

Actually, Pipi-chan also appears in DOLPHINS IN DISTRESS in the B&W series, though, there, he IS much less human than here, in which he appears in his usual merchild form.

Thank you, Jeffbert! Since it's been a while since I watched "Dolphins in Distress", I thought to myself, "is he kinding me?" But when I checked my episode guides and saw that the character in "D.i.D." known as Prince Pip, is in fact known as "Pipi-chan" in the TetsuWan Atom(u) episode, "Dolphin Civilization", I had to say to myself "darned if that Jeffbert is right again"!

It's interesting to see how Dr. Tezuka "morphed" his characters to fit whatever role he wanted them to play!

I  :astro:

As reference material, I used the Right Stuf's "Astro Boy Guide" and a Japanese guide titled "TetsuWan Atom(u) 193 Episode Guide" where the character is correctly known as "Prince Pipi".

How much detail does it have on each episode? I have questions about the names of certain characters, whose names I could not catch. I look for suffixes, but when they are absent, I am stuck.

"Astro Forever" wrote:AprilSeven, you may want to look for The Robot Stuntman episode too. No Tezuka character has any role that is as prominent as in the Time Machine episode, but there are other Tezuka characters here and there in it (some less well known). Darth Vader and Princess Saphire are in this one, too.

Yes that's right. Vader and Sapphire have very brief cameos. But next time you watch Robot Stuntman Astro Forever take a close look at the two main villains from the movie studios. They're none other than Princess Sapphires arch enemies, Duke Duralamon and his henchman Baron Neelon.

Also note the two wolf-faced characters from PHOENIX. The male was skinned and fitted with that wolf's skin. Ouch! He really had a hard time finding acceptance from either the wolf tribe or the humans.

Oh, this one? I had always wondered who he was! I had mistaken him for some kind of Puss in Boots character.

Interesting that picture you just posted Astro Forever. It looks like Sapphire has her ribbon from her hat in Princess Knight attached to her space helmet.

Tezuka certainly liked to include subtle little in-jokes as well as character appearances relating to all his works, didn't he?
