"anime" is a borrow word as is "Atom(u)", that his name may be a play-on the French word "nouveau"; making him the "nouveau merchant" or "Nouveau, the merchant"!

As for your other question, isn't Cronipuss, Dr. Sakura from the Black Jack series? I'll try to get back to you about the son because it will take me awhile to translate the kanji used for him.

I  :astro: :)
I believe BJ started in the 1970s, so, unless this guy 1st appeared elsewhere, he originated here. Thanks for your help!
Okay you caught me on that one! I knew he was not the character from Black Jack. Just thought I'd test you. Besides I just thought that they might be relatives cause they have a slight resemblance. (They're both ugly! I know that's not nice to say, but it is true!)

Any way, sorry it took so long to get back to you, but the only time I had any free time to look up the info for your request was on the weekend.
Any way after spending a couple of hours going through my different dictionaries I finally found something that makes sense after I realized that the character was given a proper Japanese surname and to make a long story short, Cronipuss is known by the Japanese surname of Tsukioka.

I  :astro: :)
I am certain that was his name in the 1980s series.

Next q:

villain in 93, Cobalt; & the names, though they might be obvious of the 3 Robot Knights (Robotiers), of 092 and the tall skinny guy (who 1st appeared in #66 Space Vikings) with the V-Turtle neck shirt. In SPACE VIKINGS, I got 'Delta' for his name, but I think there was also a title.

Thanks so much, ASTROBUDDY! :tezuka: :astro:

Just curious, but are all of these going to be for your book, Jeff?

I intend it so; I should also ask ASTROBUDDY for the publication data for that JAPANESE BOOK.

I"ll do the one that is easiest to do and the one I am also interested in and that is the names of the three robotiers. [I like the names given to them in "Astro Boy", (which are Un, Deux, and Trois!); so I am curious to see what they are called in the original "TetsuWan Atomu" episode! They are (drum roll please) Jean (or John), Paul and Van!

The others I will not be able to translate or decipher because they are more difficult and I do not have time to spare to do them! Sorry! But isn't the villain of #93, Dr. I. Q. Plenty (or Fuller?)! It sure looks like it to me.

If I get some time I'll try, but I cannot promise any thing!

Oh yeah! The book was published in 2003 and is a great companion to the "TetsuWan Atomu Complete Book"!

II has been known to turn up on eBay. Its cover features an old style TV showing Astro Boy in flight and the number 193 below the Japanese ideograms for TetsuWan Atomu!

I  :astro: :D

"Jean (or John), Paul and Van!" WHICH IS WHICH? I just watched the episode, but could not discern any names.

While that guy does bear a slight resemblance to Dr. Fooler "Foola-hakasan," they ARE different guys.

Thanks, ASTROBUDDY!

My guess is that Jean is Un, Paul is Deux, and Van is Trois!

I got “Patrol taikajo Delta” though the spelling is guesswork. Thanks, ASTROBUDDY; so you have no name for him in ROBOTIERS?

Oh, before I forget, do you have names for the cheaters in ROBOT OLYMPICS? I ran the DVD at 1/2 speed as the competitors waded ashore while the commentator listed their names, but could not catch the name for the cheating robot. Elsewhere in that episode, I could not catch the names of either human involved in the cheating. I call the fat guy the PHARMACIST (of YELLOW HORSE) & the tall guy, I only know him as "Al MC Anic" (of Atom goes to school).

:D One more request: the two little dolls from HEROES OF THE NIGHT (Somebody here uses them as an avatar). As the girl very conveniently has matches, I think she must be the LITTLE MATCH GIRL; but am clueless about the boy.

Tanks, a heap, my friend!

Way back at the dawn of anime fandom in the U.S.A., at one of the conventions someone had translated all the main characters of "The Great Robot Competition" known as "The Robot Olympics" in a synopsis of the episode's plot; so I share them with you now.

Doctors Rank and Rancid are known as Dr. Taburei and Prof. Yaburei.
Humbug I is Demon I.
Rocketta is Luna and I believe Comet Kid is Mosquito. I also have listed as Luna's creator one Dr. Scarlet.

It's harder for me to translate because what I did was copy and paste synopses of the different episodes listed in the Astro Boy Episode Guide and the on-line synopses found on the Tezuka World website onto the pages of "TetsuWan Atomu 193 Episode Guide" so I could have my own guide with pictures.

I have not watched the episodes you speak of in a while, so I did not remember that Captain Delta appears in "The Robotiers". So if I get around to watching the particular episodes you refer to maybe I might decipher who you mean!

I  :astro: :D
