Believe me, if Astroboy had been airing in the 1990s, as I live in New York, where the home station of the WB, (now known as the CW) is channel 11, I would have known about it. But as far as my research has been able to find, the 1980s Astro Boy was only picked up by a few UHF stations and I have only definite proof of only the one at the top of this thread.

BTW nice to hear from you Jayrath. I was watching the Astroboy Vs. Atlas episodes of the 1980s Astroboy and thought you were really good as Skunk in the "Atlas Lives Again" episode.

I  :astro: :)

Actually, in America, it aired in 2004, the year after Japan had aired it... Not that this is really relevant, so I'm sorry if it sounds dumb. I just felt like saying it. :) And theres a voice actor on here?! O_X -keels over- A-And h-h-he was S-Skunk?! :D THAT IS AWESOME!!! =3 I remember I actually LIKED Skunk! XD Hes so sinister!

Yes, I called it the 2004 version because that's when the English version was first broadcast in the USA. The original Japanese version aired in Japan beginning in 2003 and ending in 2004. And yes we have had the honor of an actual cast member of the English dub of the 1980s Astroboy on this site for some time and he has provided lots of information re: the production of the official English dub. (Or as some have put it the "American" version.) It is just unfortunate that the 1980s Astroboy was not as popular in the US as it was in Australia. One of the reasons is that it only aired in a few markets in the US, which is why, many to this date, still believe it never aired in the US. So that is why I have provided definite proof that it did.

It's been on DVD here for a while, we all know this and I think it was released on tape here back in the 80s but we weren't sure if it actually aired in the US because it didn't get very wide play

Okay, here is the timeline. The 1980s Astroboy was first released on home video in Australia in 1997 by a company then known as Siren Entertainment. Most people believed that the series had not aired in the USA. I have provided proof that it did air on at least one UHF channel in 1986. The series was then released in the US on VHS in 2002. This is the so-called "American" version as I believe the Canadian dub has never had an official release. (Fauna can bear me out on that.) In 2004, Madman Entertainment released the series on Region 4 DVD in Australia. In 2005, Manga Entertainment released the 1980s Astroboy series on DVD in the US.

Yes, the 1980s series did get limited play in the US, but play in the US it did and now we have conclusive evidence to that fact. Of course as AprilSeven pointed out most homes received poor UHF reception unless you had a strong receiver and could pick up a particular channel's signal or lived in an area where the signal was strong. I remember seeing Captain Harlock when it aired in the seventies on one of the Spanish language UHF channels and those channels while they did not come in very clear were still watchable.

I just wanted to get this information out there because there are still some people who do not know or do not believe that all three Astro Boy anime series have aired in the USA.

I  :astro: :D
