Cool! Too bad TRSI has yet to restore that episode, likewise, too bad the Japanese version is not available with English subtitles and region 1 encoding!

I have successfully installed eDonkey, and dowloaded 'Astro.Boy.ATOM.05.avi'. I began watching it using newly installed DivX, but it has no subtitles! Any suggestions?

Must I use some other file-sharing app, to get fansubbed video?

The ones with ATOM in the filename seem to be RAW Japanese. I think only the first 2 are subbed so-far and they have [T-N] in their filename instead.

The fansubbing is done by a IRC channel called TV-NIHON they put in the file name [T-N] so you know they did the fansubbing. They do have a site you can download it with BitTurrent the link is http://www.shinobichange.com/ but I have yet to see it on any file sharing program. :(

Btw Ep 3 will be out soon according to the channel topic on there IRC channel. :wahah:

P.S. I am also watching TV-NIHON like a hawk for new eps

Does anyone know if there are groups dedicated to subbing the original series?

I know a little bit about Kingranger and have talked to him, since he was apart of the subbing group , online and they only cover titles not licensed until they become so, where they delete their's/halt subbing to support NA releases.

You sure it will be coming? Because they did the first six and stopped when it was licensed.

No one according to AniDB. I really don't get it either.

It's probably due to it not being current and because it is licensed in the States. I'm really not sure how the reaction would be if any of Tezuka's properties were fansubbed, really. I know TOHO and TOEI are like HAWKS over their work while Tezuka Pro. is pushovery. But I'm not sure how they'd be with Right Stuf. who owns the rights currently to the series.

The problem with Astro Boy and retro series is their anonymity and unpopularity. Especially since it's a niche interest, we should be lucky we got the DVDs of the dubs of them. And coming from a Tokusatsu fan standpoint, we get little to nothing in terms of retro releases, unless we are extremely lucky that the materials for the dubs/subs were not only preserved , but kept in good condition for re-release and that the companies that release them are made of fans themselves and or serve that niche.

Heck, recent titles are either very rare to come by because of either A. Saban's ownage of the Sentai franchise rights globally and B. because no companies see the opening to release uncut/dubbed/subbed toku and have profit.

The only surefire way Astro Boy has any possibility of being fansubbed is for someone to provide the DVD/Blu-Ray encodes of the episodes , a dedicated subbing team to do it throughout 200 episodes and there might be a slight chance of it being completed, but I've seen many series not completed due to being old.

A good place to start would be the episodes that haven't been dubbed. There are so many people who want this series subbed that a group would just have to ask for rips and they'd receive 'em pretty fast. The Japanese sets are actually cheaper per episode than the US ones.
