Do you remember in the 80s series (in The Crystal of The Desert) Atlas shone a light from his forehead as a weapon? He called it a Third Dimension Oscillator and was trying to burn out Astro's electronic brain but hit Livian by mistake.

I love that ep'. I felt so sorry for livian and atlas. It was a typical "heartbreak" story. Good guy fights bad guy, bad guy tries to kill good guy, Bad guys lover gets hurt in the crossfire    sooo sad[/b][/quote]
This wouldn't happen if they weren't bad guy on the first place ;)
Although for me Atlas is an "ambiguous guy", I felt him like that even when I saw the 80s when I wasn't even 10. He can be without mercy towards Astro, but he can also behave with great honnor.

Sometimes Atlas can be compared with the Star Trek's clingons. They also give a lot on pride and honour, but they're always the bad guys.

My favourite Atlas-episode is the 80's ep 'Atlas Forever'. It contains a lot of drama and tragedy.
I always get goosey when I watch it, especially at the part where Astro yells this loud 'noooo' at the end  .
Both Cpt Keely and Astro lost their brothers.

Yes, this one bears the most drama of all 80s Astro episodes to my knowledge.
One of my favorite...
But I'm still wondering if I had seen it in my younger days, I'll probably never know :(

And about the Klingons, they are not always the bad guys, at least not in more recent episodes.
I would preffer comparing Atlas to Darth Vader: bad most of the time, but showing concern about his son willing him to join to conquer the galaxy, and Atlas willing his brother at his sides to conquer the world, but at the end both Atlas and Darth Vader "see the light", become good guys, and die in an ultim sacrifice...
How dramatic... but also so beautiful

Now I've done it! Evoking those events has made me dropping tons of tears on my keyboard!
Such a tragedy, I will have to change it

You're right. Darth Vader is the better comparison to Atlas. Even Atlas' lightning sabre gives some hints to Star Wars, also does Astro's sabre fight with Atlas in the 80's ep 'The Runaway Subway Train'. Very clever adapted from the SW movies :) .

I had forgotten about his lightning saber :D
Moreover, this evening I have seen again the robot vikings, where he appears with a very darth-looking cloth, I'm pretty sure they have taken the idea somewhere, but where ? ;)

Same here!

Atlas grows up being a tool of humans, his one true love destroyed by humans, and they nearly destroy him. Then in the end he sacrifices himself to save the entire world because of Astro and Livian.

It's episode 11, available on volume 11 of the Siren tapes.
