I do not understand how the thing can run on two competing channel at the same time. The stations pay for the right to broadcast or cablecast the shows, and sell advertising etc. How it can run on a public and privite station simultaneously is beyond me. :o

The cable channel gets to show it first. Not by much, admittedly.

As I previously said on this forum, the ABC will screen the new episodes as well as Ten.
I have recieved numerous emails from directors and managers of the ABC, who have told me that they will show them.

They edited out some of the more funny moments. Such as when Astro takes his first flight and meets a father walking with his daughter. Astro is intrigued by their relationship but does not know his own strengh and ends up spinning the father over his head when he tries to hold his hand.

Not to mention the laws of physics. No matter how strog he is, unless he can greatly increase his mass by sheer thought, he would be the one flopping around!

A later section when Astro is lifting the robot into the air, the voice of the robot is distinctly female in the Japanese version.

Hmmm actually it isn't quite distinct... it sounds almost like a child and having watched a LOT of anime i can say there are a lot of male voice actors with higher voices ^^;

As for ABC I got this off an Australian Anime Mailing list i'm subscribed to:

"While waiting for Dr Who to start I tuned into the ABC way early and
caught the end of "The Saddle Club". Right after the show I saw a promo
advertising Astroboy and the date of its (re)appearance on Thursday April
15."

As for Sony for those looking for the Sony Pictures Entertainment website for Australia there isn't really one just the distributor side of things. However searching their website i did find an appropriate point of contact:

This still does not confirm it is the new series.

Remember when they were talking about Dr Who comming back? That was not a new series either.

I am not convinced. I am expecting that it will be the new series, but I will not be suprized if it isnt. I will be dissappointed, but hey.. its not like I won't buy it when it hits DVD. Will just have to wait a little longer to watch it.

I can't wait till I can set up with ADSL so I can get the real episodes either.

It is DEFINATELY the new series!!!!!!!

Saw the add for it today during ABC Kids and the clips shown are NOT the 80's series. Astro has a wierdo Megaman Gun now apparently! Thats cool haha..

I think it said 15th it starts but not sure.

WHats the best brand of VHS Tape to buy? Emtec, yes? No?

oh how I with I had DTV right now. The joygasmic concept of Astro being Add-free, Edit-free, Watermark-free is just achinly good.

God Bless Aunty.

I still Funnly intend on getting the 'original' episodes tho (Original being the fan subs or raw eps off Anapans FTP) just so I know I have 'the purest' version I can.

the promo on the ABC stated the epidsodes to be "new and re-marsted" so from that im guessing it is the new series.
i have never known the ABC to run and old series in its childrens prime time (if u can call it that)
plus the footage they showed on the ad , looked like the new series.
