Atlas has too :D
Anyway, one does not need to like the character to be a fan: I am a Bender fan, but I wouldn't like him to exist in real life, certainly not in my near vicinity :P
The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.

I rather expect Hamegg to have any fans than Walpur Giss or Mandrake the 4h.

I knew who Hamegg was, but didn't (and still don't) understand the "he can't have anyother roles, but all of us Tezuka fans know this isn't true..." part in O2Destroyer's post.

As for Torch/Lamp, that's fine, you answered my question! :)

ETA: How's my avatar?

Tezuka regularly brings back the same faces over and over but as different characters. In the Astro comics, hamegg and lamp show up regularly, often as different characters (in fact, I think lamp actually dies in one comic as I recall, then shows up later). It is almost more like lamp and hamegg are archetypes, so when we see lamp show up again, we know that it doesn't have to be the same character as before, but no doubt is still an evil character.

Of course, the reason this may happen in the comic is due to it spanning two decades (or something like that), where the animated shows are condensed enough that it might give rise to real confusion if they appeared over and over--especially to those who hadn't grown used to Tezuka doing this.

As a matter of fact, I recorded the episodes myself, so no surprise :p Well, except for the last image, I don't remember where it comes from
