Just saw the Astro Boy movie at a special advance screening in New York City sponsored by the New York International Children's Film Festival! In attendance was the film's director, David Bowers! The film is very entertaining and is an excellent family film! It adapts the basic backstory of TeTsuWan Atom; basically updates and adds more of the science fantasy elements of Astro Boy! The film is 95 minutes (or 1hr., 35 min) long. The comic book adaptation by IDW Pub. follows the movie closely! All in all a very entertaining picture! Dr. Tezuka would probably be proud with this revisionist adaptation! It has great graphics; the voice cast is mostly good and the action scenes are true to Tezuka's ideal of having Atom/Astro fight only in self-defense! It would be nice if the film's success leads to a sequel that introduces Astro Girl as well as some of the other Astro Boy supporting players! After the film's screening director, David Bowers handled questions from the younger members of the audience with great humor, and respect for the audience! Astro fans should enjoy the movie for what it is, another version of Astro Boy! (Yes I did have some problems with some of the movie's storyline, but despite any criticisms I had about the plot, I felt it still stayed true to the Astro Boy mythos!)

What I mean is, I movie wasn't Uwe Boll level suck -- is was a decent kids action film, but for me that's it. There's the little, niggly details that just got to me and made me think "This isn't really Astro".
For one thing, Astro/Tobio was made older and not cute enough, Tenma was too nice, Elefun was too serious, and the whole robot-rights thing wasn't taken seriously at all.
Yeah, this movie's got me in whiny fan-girl mode

Well as I told Jeffbert and everyone somewhile back, The creator can't be mad. And Astro had to contain some of Tobios Mind and soul. M-5 ingrams? LOL
But they did make him a little more mature and thats ok as long as they don't go toooo far. Remember Astro was driving a car in the 60's...
And Uwe Boll yuck!!!
