Anobody ever read Bicentenial Man? I suppose the film version probably did have the essential elements, but I think I read the book after seeing the film, so I recall it better than film. Anyway, the immortality is not such a graet thing, when you see your grandchildren die of old age. I know there was a TZone story along those lines, but cannot recall the title.

BTW, when you use a quote of someone's post, it is b est to edit it so that only the important part is quoted. :p

About Atom falling for Cora, in Jetter Mars, there is a robot girl who is simply radiant, & all the boys robot & human are nuts about her.

If we are to hold the original manga's backstory as part of the same canon as the film adaptation, it is strictly stated that Astro cannot grow- the very reason why he was abandoned.

I like your ideas for Cora having a similar problem or condition, and although doubtful, an official adaption could theoretically pick up on it, but Astro being able to grow in a physical sense goes against all the science for the development of robots with Kokoro that is given. Since Astro is offered a new body near the end of the 2003 series, it appears to be possible for a full body transplant, but horsepower aside there doesn't appear to be any way for his original body to "grow" in any way. He was created to be the age Tobio was at his death and never grew past it.

And that's the sad part perhaps, or maybe not sad in how it plays out. Astro remains the same while his human friends grow older. He'd make new friends of course but you can't expect him to remain in elementary school for a hundred years and as his mental capacity and emotions grow more complex, what will he think of outliving all his friends?

That would suck. He falls in love with Cora and while she gets older, he's stuck in the "Pan-dorian" complex....sheesh who would not hate that.

And I'm going to go ahead and say here that I know my questions may sound stupid, unrealistic, or something like that, but these are serious questions for me! And my answers to someone else's questions may sound matter-of-fact or whatever, but I don't mean for them to be. I'm just trying to be helpful and answer questions with my knowledge.

OK. So, my question is definitely stupid for the older versions of Astro, but this question is mostly regarding 2009 Astro, since there's nothing saying that he can't be any different from the cartoons, and there obviously are differences (i.e. in the cartoons, everyone automatically knew he was a robot, while in the movie, they initially thought he was a human boy).

So my question is... Does anyone think that it might even be remotely possible for Astro to age in any way? I have theories, but still I wanna hear all of your opinions.

My two theories (don't make fun of them please)-

1. That every year or so, he has his appearance and such updated. (I find this one fairly plausible)

2. I personally believe that, since they had technology advanced enough to scan a hair and get a person's memories from it, then put those memories into a robot, and essentially give the robot a heart and soul, surely aging wouldn't be that much more of a problem for Dr. Tenma and Dr. Elefun to do.

Please give your personal opinions, and ask your own personal questions, but please don't get the conception that anyone is stupid or anything because of their question.

Yes and no.

1. he can't age like a real boy but if Tenma/Boiten had given him the ability to shift his metal with time, and the syntha skin to grow as well then perhaps...then maybe yes he could have.

2. In retrospect Astro has grown from an infant like personality to that of a college graduate. I do believe he has grown in his mind rather then body. Think of him as a LP (Little Person) Rather then a boy robot. He just stopped growing somewhere and continued to grow his mind.

Yeah he has, of course he always had the ability to mature instantly but where's the fun in that?

In the story Atom is stolen, a con artist appears with teenaged robot bodies for Atom, Uran, & Cobalt. He says its unfair that they must remain children forever.

I remember that one. As I recall, Astro was actually miserable as an adult

^ I don't think he would have the same trouble if he also naturally matured mentally, though. Everyone gets used to being an adult as they go through infancy/childhood/teenagedom first, but taking a 9 or so year old's brain and sticking it in a middle aged janitor's body would cause more than a bit of confusion and disturbance XD
