I found a way to make GIF's for avatars soforth online

@ androids101 - try veiwing a stupid pic you want to get rid of, then click the move to paint button then, make the pait size to nothing and then put it back up to any size you want, then the picture will go away and you can click edit ; past from.. and click the picture you want to makw bigger then it will paste when you open it and you can re-size it!

With GIMP, you don't "resize" an image, you "rescale" it, so you may have missed it. In my current version, it is in the menu "Image -> Scale image..." . I have used it quite frequently and I don't remember having had any troubles.
