Here's an interesting question

I do not think there was any element of memory wipe in the pre-2k versions, other than the boy who was hypnotized in the chronicles.

There was sort of one in the original manga towards the end of the story where :tezuka: made :astro: mindwiped , his family demolished and :astro: became evil.

It pretty much hurt :astro: 's fame in his home country so Tezuka reversed it and never went back. But if they ever do it again, they need a serious subplot of human insurrection in the vein of Terminator Salvation...

Oh, the BLUE-KNIGHT: ATOM REBORN episode! I had not thought of it, because Tenma had merely altered Atom's personality; if there was a mind-wipe, it was very ineffective, especially since :tenma: created atom in the 1st place. :p :hyo:

He made him an origin story when it was needed, and forgot about it when it didn't serve the story he wanted to tell. Might be a case where the fans made the mythos more important than its creator himself saw it. :P

Possibly. I remember at one point thinking that in the log run, Tobio was a Mcguffin device. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MacGuffin
True. I would have loved if Ishinomori did a version of Astro Boy before he died while Tezuka did Kamen Rider if both have lived longer.

With that said I wish Astro was rebooted as a cyborg who is Tobio but has a personality change from a selfish brat into the Astro we know. Like the Bourne Identity.
That would be fascinating. "We can rebuild him. WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY!"

Going back to the original question; You said that Meeva was able to bring back artifacts, maybe living beings can't survive the shift in time. (sorry I havn't actually read it myself) In that case it would have been stup!d for Tenma to try and bring back Tobio.

I never read that story (don't have the manga), but my question would be different.

If he just wanted Astro Boy in his "brand new" state, why not take the blueprints and build him?

A new, simple question that doesn't make any sense:

Since Metro City is so high in the sky, wouldn't the atmosphere be very cold? And yet somehow the people just wear as much as the people on the surface!

They would also take a lot of wind; my bet is that they have some kind of shield. Not far-fetched if we admit the city is floating all the time :p
The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.
