History of 80s Astroboy?

For those who want to see Canadian Astro boy, there are two episodes on youtube:

We received the scripts already translated. My guess would be that this was done in Japan, since we sometimes encountered words or phrases that must have been direct translations of the original text in Japanese -- for example, "water horse" for "hippo."

We certainly never changed names of major characters. You have to remember that were all very, very concerned about pleasing the studio. I can think of only one very minor character we renamed, after our director when he took a day off.

So far as censorship goes: Some scenes that we received on video we didn't even bother recording; word came from Japan that they would not be in the English release. There was a great deal of concern at the time about violence on children's television. I still have no idea why the pilot was cut in two; it was the underpinning of the entire series arc.

A few scenes here and there so astonished us that we sent word up the chain that they would be unacceptable on American TV. Again, these related to violence.
