Also, about the chocolate bar thing: if you could make it look good, that could be an awesome bit of fanart. :B

They would always want to go shopping when AB aired . . . to they'd leave me in the TV dept, and I'd watch Astro in the store, while they shopped!!

One GOOD thing back then . . . a LOT of kids in my class watched/loved Astro Boy . . . and our teacher would let us draw "cartoons" on the black board about him (we didn't know about manga or anime - we didn't even know Astro was Japanese!). So yeah, it was GREAT that he was really popular and had a real fan base. Too bad the subsequent anime series didn't have that in the USA.

Today I've got Astro stuff in my office, and you'd be surprised how many people good-naturedly tease me about my hero -- but a lot of them will then come back and say . . . Oh... I just saw that movie(on DVD or something), and it was really good! So I feel like I do my part for AB every day!! :p :astro:

I'm a software engineer and I'm currently working at RIM/Blackberry in the OS support group. Needless to say there are a bunch of nerd/geek types, some of whom like Anime and Comics. Offices are often decorated with action figures (Mavel stuff like the Avengers), etc. So, I'd get away with having some AB series action figures if I could only find some reasonably priced that looked decent. Most of the ones I see on ebay are too, well toy like. I have used some AB artwork from the net for desktop on my computer and cell phone.

I've also made some iron-on's for Tee shirts, but alas the transfer sheets from Office Depot don't last more than one or two cycles through the washer! I wish I could get some professional iron on transfers (but they require a high heat press, a clothes iron won't work!). Maybe if I took a thumb drive to the mall I could get one of the tee shirt vendors to make me a custom one? I've got some real nice AB artwork on the computer found on the web that would make great Tee shirt art. Also a nice portrait of Tezuka just begging to go on the back of a Tee Shirt. BTW, I've been stopped by a few older people in the street who've seen me wearing my homemade AB Tee shirt who would comment something like "Wow, Astroboy, I remember that show". (I used an image from the Right Stuf, 1960 series in B&W).

I don't really talk about my obsessions much with people (mostly because I don't have many to talk about lol)
The only one my friends really know about well is my love for Zelda related things. I did get teased once about that. I was drawing a princess type character, and I decided to give her pointy ears (because I just like pointy ears in general). One of my guy friends came up to me and was like, "oh is that Zelda?" with a smirk. I was like "no". It was funny though because then he just kind of walked away like he failed or something.
Some of my friends have seen me draw pictures of Astro, but they don't really think much of it. I also don't think I'd have a real problem in school cuz most of my friends (and two of my teachers) have things they obsess over themselves.

Well I don't think I have an obsession... though I do have an Astro Boy phone charm I was lucky enough to find that gets more attention than is deserved.

I am 25 now, and most the peers my age have grown out of having cell phone charms in effigy of their favorite animated characters. It's more awkward than anything when a superior (boss or teacher) sees it and gives me that 'look' that says "What are you? 12?"

I really don't give a lick what people think about me, but I certainly do care if their warped perception of me causes me a disadvantage. "It's that girl with the Astro Boy phone charm, I'd better not give her that internship position because she might be immature and childish!" It's that sort of thing that I find incredibly annoying. It has not happened to that extreme to date, but I know it's possible and not hard to imagine happening.

I think people should leave other people alone for what sort of media they like. I can't stand vampires, I hate them in fact, but I don't bash people for liking Twilight.

I guess I have seldom been bugged for liking Astro Boy.

No one bothers me about it, since I've always kinda been THAT person who likes things other people don't. The most I get is lighthearted teasing from my friends about being a pedophile and needing to get my head checked out. Feels good man.

Heh, I'm primarily a Zelda nut, myself. That's probably where I picked up my affinity for long, pointy ears, too (that, and for some reason, they're just so much easier to draw). I think I weird some of family out sometimes (mostly my brother, who is weirded out by a lot of the things I do; he weirds me out in kind), but I'm not very obvious about my obsession- just the part that longs for merchandise and freaks out in a happy (yet somewhat melancholy) sort of way whenever a new game is announced.

I'm much quieter about my Atom obsession, though. Online, when talking to strangers, it feels okay to talk about my obsessions; I worry more about the opinion of people who know me, rather than people I've never even met.

I don't even know if most of my family even knows (or remembers) that I like "Astro Boy" (I'm in a phase where I prefer to call him "Atom" right now; it switches between that and "Astro" from time to time- I NEVER refer to him as "Astro Boy" if I can help it).

If someone was REALLY obsessed they might get the barber to give them a special haircut with extra hair jell to hold the tufts in place on the back of their head.

Hope I haven't given anyone a bad idea there........

I think true obsession would be getting a tattoo of Atom. That's dedication.
